    So with all the “retro” cars over the last several years whats your favorite?

    Personally I like the PT CRUISER. It’s so versatile and looks great (though not the best car for long distance driving).

    What’s yours?? (I’d do a poll but I don’t know enough names of the retro models to list them :D)

    I wish this “retro” phase would just go away, I don’t want my car to look like a model from the 60’s. That said the new 2007 Mustang Cobra looks hot.
    Or the Ford GT.

    I like the new Mustang, Ford did a good job on bringing a retro look to it, something GM failed to do with the new goat

    Their was nothing retro about the new GTO other than the name.
    I am liking it more and more though, decent handling, nice engine, and understated looks. If you are not carefull you will think its a normal Pontiac rather than a muscle car.
    Needless to say I love sleepers.

    I would love to see them bring back the styling of the 60s muscle cars, wouldn’t that be cool? Have a 69 GTO Judge with all the modern conveniences!

    Yeah but I like my cars to handle….
    And old muscle cars really can’t handle.

    Plus I have a question about the old muscle cars. Now back in the day they used Gross HP, hand built engines running race fuels to post horsepower numbers.
    So what did these engines REALLY put out in modern net horsepower using regular fuel?
    Anyone have any dyno’s? Or are muscle car owners too scared to see their #’s were nothing more than marketing hype.

    Yeah, the Mustang is pretty good. If it had been abit closer to the 64 1/2, I might have bought one myself.

    I currently drive a 350z. In reminds me very much of the 280z I drove back in the 70’s, only now it’s a real sports cars instead of a fun car. 350z = art on wheels. icon_cheesygrin.gif

    I worked for a ford dealership for a while and earlier this year the new mustangs were selling like hotcakes! We were taking 3 new ones off the truck twice a week and some were custom built to the buyers specs. I got the chance to do PDI’s on a couple of them and even as one couple watched me do one and they were smiling it was kinda like being a nurse in the baby room and having the parents about to take their new baby home. IMO the new gto’s seriously lack the retro style, look too much like the grand ams, decent power but no looks. Muscle cars of yesterday can very easily be made to handle but that would take away from the feel of being behind the wheel of one of those 440 or 455 ci monsters and being in control, nowdays we are all tuned into handling and power steering and a whole bunch of other options. I love to feel the rumble of my motor and the car shaking from my high lift cam when i pull up to the stop sign or are cruising.. something i dont get with newer cars.

    I think that part of the appeal to a lot of people about the GTO is because it is not retro or racey looking. It is drab, it is visually dull, and to a lot of people who look at the sports car market and see Subaru STi’s, SRT-4’s, Mustangs, EVO VII’s and the like seeing somthing that does not have a factory body kit, huge rear wing or ricer wheels is refreshing. At first I did not like them, but now I smile whenever I see one.
    As for muscle cars and handling, an autocross budy of mine had an old mustang he put a lot of suspension work on an old Rustang and I did not think it took away from anything, the car was still loud fast but it could go actually go around a corner, in fact it regularly beat the Subaru STi’s (which irked the STi guys since a 40 year old plowhorse kicked their butts).

    I think the pt cruiser is ugly, and the chevy ssr too. Gm I thought had the best styling, but I think ford has been doing a better job in that department lately. The mustang looks pretty good, and the tbird not bad, and I like the prowler. I haven’t drove any of them, so I don’t know about performance wise. Gm still owes me for what they did to the Nova name with the rebadged toyota in the 80’s. I think they should bring back the nova name, and put it on a nice car this time. I like the coke bottle styling of the muslecar era. I don’t care for the bubble butt styling of today.
    But look what the younger drivers are into these days, pos imports with ugly body kits. And a lot of older buyers have a family and want a practical vehicle that is reliable and has room for family and gets good gas milage with todays gas prices. Unless they are older and have money to buy a car for fun besides there commuter vehicle. And then they might as well just buy the real thing to re live thier youth, not some retro vehicle. I was working at a ford dealer when mustang changed the styling around 94 and those were selling quick too.

    I think the SSR has some good ideas, but they’re not implimented the right way.

    Its way too heavy.
    Besides it is basically a rebodied Blazer from what I have read.

    Without even having to think about my answer, it is the Ford Thunderbird. I have been admiring this car since Ford re-introduced them in 2002. If I could justify the purchase of a new car, it would be a 2005 Ford Thunderbird (50th anniversary edition). thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif
