You know its weird, when the wb aired the first LORD OF THE RINGS movie the other year they cropped it. It wasn’t full screen but it was close to 1.85:1. What’s the point of cropping a 2.35:1 movie to 1.85:1????? If they didn’t want it to be superwide why not air the full screen version? It seems really odd to half crop a movie instead of going all the way. I’ve seen this done to other 2.35 movies as well. It just seems like a waste since your not giving it full screen treatment and the bars are still there.

Maybe they thought it was a “compromise” for purists. They didn’t want to crop the whole thing down to full but wanted it “less wide” for others. Just a weird thing to do it half way.

Yeah that seems odd, although I could understand if they want to find a happy medium for viewers with smaller tvs

Widescreen, because it more closely approximates the movie theater experience. I expect to have an HDTV set within the next 6 to 8 months, and I start drooling whenever I think about it. icon_cheesygrin.gif

Good point, some things that are originally filmed in fullscreen are good in that

Widescreen since I keep finding more and more DVD’s that fit my 16×9 ratio nowadays.

You have a 16×9? What size is it and how do you like it?

I guess you could say my portable dvd player is 16×9. 😉

30″ LCD for my bedroom. It’s pretty nice but I would have go much larger for a family room and what not.
