I am really bummed out by this deal. I received my first negative feeback this week from a seller.

I have been on ebay and using ebay since 1998, and for the last seven years I have a feedback rating of 645, with no neutrals and no negatives, but a deadbeat seller gave me a negative this week. It really doesn’t matter that this seller has a total of 65 negative feedbacks this year (yes, thats right, he/she is a power seller).

Basically, the seller was listing and selling merchandise that he did not have in his possession. I purchased an item (around $35) and paid for it using PAYPAL. I waited, and I waited and I started sending emails after the second week, and got no response. I waited another week, and sent more emails, which were never answered. So, I contacted PAYPAL and disputed this purchase and they refunded my PAYPAL payment. About the same time, the seller contacted me and told me, and other buyers that his supplier could not supply the item. Based on the fact that he kept me strung out for three weeks, and did not answer emails, and only confronted the issues when PAYPAL required him to refund my payment, I left him a negative feedback first. On top of the other 60 or so negative feedbacks this year, I didn’t think it would mean much. Within hours, the seller gives me a negative feeback in retaliation. I have posted a reply to the negative feedback, but there is not much else I can do, is there?

So how does that work, he gives you a negative feedback for buying that?

I am certain that it was retaliation for me leaving negative feedback and nothing more. I really wanted the item and I was willing to wait three weeks, but if I hadn’t of forced the issue, I would have waited much longer, with no item, and nothing in return for my PAYPAL payment, and a seller who was not willing to answer emails. Thank goodness that I used PAYPAL for payment and I was able to get my payment back.

Regardless of how patient one is, and how much leeway you are willing to give, there will always be a small segment that is out to take advantage of good will and patience.

I’m sorry to hear about what happened to you. I buy and sell on eBay regularly and that is one of the things I am always leary of. You try to extend someone all the courtesy in the world and you end up on the short end of the stick. When you justly leave a negative the risk of receiving a negative can come with no valid reason at all.

Removal of a negative is a pretty hard thing to do. You can try to explain your case to eBay safe harbour but it is rare for them to strike a negative from your record.

What’s the username of the seller. If anything I can try to get the word out to beware of doing business with this piece of work.

That’s terrible, its amazing how childish some people act. Its his fault for not returning your emails, it only takes a few seconds and its his responsibility to do so since you’re the customer. I had a similar case happen to me this last year on half.com, a partner with ebay. I bought a Babylon 5 Season 3 Box Set for around $40 from a guy on there, who was in California. Anyway I waited the absolute maximum (like 30) days for the package to come… still nothing. Finally after sending emails to the guy I filed a case – then finally I heard back from him and he claimed that he sent it – I said I never recieved it and I never got a tracking number. After that he sent out “another” copy of it with express mail and actually gave me a tracking number. This one arrived in just a couple days, but it was a big hassle to get that far.

That’s too bad. The guy sounds like a loser.

If you are interested in the particulars, my user id on eBay is ebizbuddy. If you look at my feedback, you will see the only negative that I have received in actually 7 years.

Can’t do much else. Bottom line is people will read your response to the negative they left you and should understand. I’ve my share of deals go south on Ebay myself but thankfully no negatives in the past year and half. Still 100% positive. But if I was your position I would have also left the negative feedback. You waited and waited and he never told you what was up. He deserved it. But everytime you leave a negative you can almost bet to end up with one left for you to.

He does deserve it, he is required to satisfy his clients, which he failed to do no matter how you look at it

I had a ‘negative’ once. The (so-called) buyer was a minor in Canada playing a childish game. He refused to pay, and then posted negative feedback regarding me. I appealed to eBay, they banned him, and then removed the negative mark from my record. (It seems the kid had a history of this kind of stuff.)
