Just looking for a “second opinion” from the Pontiac experts here (GTO Man?) about clutch replacement:
Is a Pontiac flywheel for a 1978 V-8 drilled with only one pressure plate bolt pattern that will accept either the 10.4″ or the 11″ size clutch?
    Thanks.

That is above my knowledge level but maybe someone else may have the answer to your question. Otherwise I think a Pontiac dealer should be able to come up with the answer.

Is there anyone here from the God’s Country Pontiac Club? Maybe one of their members could shed some insight

Yes. The factory flywheel for the 400 engine is drilled for an 11″ clutch only. But they are very hard to find in good enough shape to be reconditioned, so we decided to go with a Hays flywheel (cheapest aftermarket steel unit) that was a perfect fit replacement.

Just fine, thank you. Been helping my son rebuild his ’78 T/A the last few months. It’s a rust-free California car, with the 400/W72 motor, 4-speed, and no T-tops. He completely redid the front suspension/engine bay, including a sub-frame swap from a donor car, back to better-than-new condition using polyurethane bushings. We got the rebuilt engine fired last week, and he’s breaking it in. The project was quite a chore — too many stumbling blocks for my taste. Next spring he’ll tackle the back half of the car, and “someday” get around to the body work, paint and interior. I’m going to rest up over the winter!

He has taken many pictures, but I haven’t seen any of them yet. I’ll try to find a few for posting in the near future.

Great, I look forward to it!

How’s the weather there in Iowa, getting cold?

Yes, and raining… pretty much the same crap you have in Madison.
But hey — it’s Fall! Gee, I can’t wait for the rain to turn to ice, then snow Drogar-Cry(LBG).gif
