> MADISON – James F. Normington, age 70, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at the HospiceCare facility in Fitchburg. He was born Sept. 23, 1936, the son of Helen and Laurence (Link) Normington. Jim married Rita Seipel 46 years ago and together they raised two children, Angela and Tim. Jim was a quiet, compassionate person who cared deeply about his family and friends. He was a devoted family man who was always there to offer help at any time, in any form. He and Rita proudly owned Jim’s Westgate Beauty Salon for more than 36 years. He loved working with and talking to the people who visited the shop. Until recently, he continued visiting some of his customers in nursing homes. Jim joined the Marine Reserves and was a member of a 50s car club called the Shift Masters. Later, he also joined the Madison Vintage Auto Club and was nicknamed as a member of the Trophy Trio (Jim, Ed and Dick). Jim’s zest for living usually began at 4 a.m., allowing him to squeeze as many activities into his waking hours as possible- fishing, shop work, lawn care, family time and Packers games. He and Rita were members of the Madison Rose Society for 30 years and made many long time friends. He was a very dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and mentor. We are only beginning to realize how much he will be sorely missed. Expressing our love for Jim can never be complete, no matter how much we try. He was very special. These words I write today are not good enough to describe Jim as a person. Please take a moment to mentally add your own thoughts and mention him in your prayers. Jim is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Angela and Tim; daughter-in-law, Myra; and granddaughter, Alexi. He is further survived by his sisters, Barbara (Bob) Shunk and Pug (Ed) Brown and brothers, Rich Normington and Steve (Chris) Normington. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, whom he loved and cared for very much, Helen and Link Normington. The family wishes to thank Dr. Schelman and the caring staff at University Hospital, along with the exceptional support and understanding of the caregivers at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. The family invites visitors to join them at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006.
