What do you think of the length of the average car show? They usually start around 8am and end with the awards ceremony at 3 or 4pm. It can get to be a long day waiting around for the awards. Would you like to see the awards given out earlier than they are now? Should awards be given to the winner whether they are there or not? Some shows do that now.

Why start so early? Make shows about 3 to 4 hours. Like a noon to 4 kinda thing. And I prefer that awards be given at the end and only to those that stay. It is kind of arrogant to expect the show to track you down to give you an award because you didn’t feel like staying. The show should inform you that you need to stick around.

I don’t mind shows that start around 8 a.m., it’s usually a nice drive in the summer mornings. I do feel if you deserve an award you should be there to receive it, otherwise why be judged? I also appreciate when awards are given out around 2, especially when it’s hot out. I know it’s hard to do that with some of the bigger shows due to the number of cars, judges and other factors but I’ve been to plenty of shows where judging has been done early and you still sit and wait…

I like the idea of a show starting around 10am and going until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. I, like Rachael, enjoy a morning cruise in the summer, but there are some of those who attend church and get to the festivities late. If a show was a little later in the morning, this would accomodate those who go (or should go) to church.

Big shows like Blanchardville never have the awards on time…and it makes for a really long day when its so damn hot out. I think last year I lost 10 lbs. just from sweating my a$$ off. I enjoy Blanchardville, and Frank S. does a really great job with the organization, but they do need to get a little better when it comes to getting the judging sheets counted and having the awards on time. On the other hand, the shows that expected a larger turnout and didn’t get the numbers they had hoped to gave awards away earlier and that was nice.

All this talk about shows is getting me excited for spring wave.gif

I would like to see the shows give out the awards between 2 and 3. Since most shows keep the registration open until noon or so a person doesn’t have to arrive at 8 am to be able to receive an award. If it is participant judging then arriving earlier makes sense. Like has been said an early morning drive is nice. There was a very good article in one of the Hemmings magazines about car shows and the awards. I will see if I can post a link to it.

What is the earliest you’ve ever arrived at a show or what is the earliest you’ve heard of a show starting?

The earliest show starts that I know of would be at the Jefferson shows which is 6am.

Arrived… 7:30, knowing it was going to be HOT and I wanted a shady spot.
