GTO Man, I totally agree. In my mind, NASCAR has not been the same since Dale Earnhardt’s death at Daytona a few years back.
How is it possible that Jimmie Johnson could and did win the cup three years in a row, back to back?
Where is the level playing field and even competition?
I have heard that lack of sponsorship in 2009 will force several teams to shut down.Marshall
Napcar has been horrible since it started becoming to corporate in the mid ninties. You can see the tail off for fan support upon Earnhardt’s death as MMRJR mentions.
Same looking cars, same speaking drivers giving us a commercial soundbit everytime they open their mouths, same cookie cutter tracks most times…..It’s lacks any character now. Everything is nitpicked to death, it’s a rolling soap opera on wheels with a smattering of WWF theatrics thrown in.
Support your local tracks, where most of these drivers got their starts! I guarantee you won’t see the same winners week after week and these guys love it!
I agree…Nascar has become a victim of itself. It lost touch with what made it successful.
And the COT is an absolute joke. You can tell that it was designed 7 years ago…its design hasnt kept up with the times, it looks and is stale. It was outdated before it even hit the track.
whats funny is how similar its problems are to the Detroit Big 3. And also the causes.
Nascar teams are really downsizing. There been well over 1000 layoffs throughout Nascar. Many sponsors are cutting back or pulling out altogether. Even Jeff Gordon said he would be willing to take a pay cut.
The sport has become boring. It is tiring seeing the same drivers at the front. The races are very long and many times the best car doesn’t win. The gas mileage game is boring. This year’s Chase was a yawner. Maybe they should show the races from the late ’60’s or early ’70’s.
