Wow! Needless to say, times are tight for alot of people at every level.

    Here’s a local example:
Don Miller has a 2009 Challenger, Tor Red, with the Hemi motor setting on the corner of it’s lot on Odana. I drive past this car every day and it’ still there. It’s been there about 3 weeks now. Back a few years ago, this car wouldn’t have made it to the lot, it would have been sold before I came off the car hauler.

The Auto Companies will not look the same in a couple of months, and if they do they may not be around much longer. Gm selling its historic vehicles is too bad, it loses part of it’s identity.

That is surprising that the Challenger has sat there for so long. Maybe a person can even deal on it. You wonder how long the car companies will be willing to produce the high performance cars considering their situation.

Yeah but, but, but…. Who is going to buy those cars? Granted, some are really cool and would be nice to have but the price tags have to be sky high?!

Many should stay in a museum or something similiar and I can’t imagine shelling out big bucks for something I’m going to look at.

I really wonder how Barrett Jackson is going to be this year, you’ll still have your big dollar cars there, but will they sell for what the owners are looking for??

I certainly don’t have a crystal ball, but I am guessing that most cars (at Barrett-Jackson and other January auctions) will bring less money than years past, except for the truly blue chip, or investment quality cars or extremely rare cars. There have always been and always will be buyers with the money to “acquire” these vehicles and add them to their private collections.

In regards to the car dealers on Odana, the big box stores like Smart and Don Miller will survive and prosper, but I wonder about the smaller dealers such as JD Byrider, and Russ Darrow, and the Gordie Bouchie used car lot next door.

The museum quality cars from GM, I see simply as a way for GM to raise some much needed cash and do it quickly. It’s unfortunate that these cars need to be sold, but I think GM is at point where the corporation needs to do anything/everything to keep the business going. I would have thought that GM would sell off the Saturn line right away.

Like said above I hope these cars get into museums where they can still be seen. They are certainly rare beauties. What surprises me is how GM and the other auto makers scrapped their concept cars. Granted they couldn’t see the future but those are very very valuable nowadays and that would be a cool thing for a company to have in their collection – their “what ifs”

I beg to differ, I think you will see the larger dealers close/consolidate and the rural, smaller dealerships survive due to less overhead with inventory and such.

B-J will be fun to watch, I do hope that the prices come way down on a lot of cars. Your big investment cars will stay high. I’m disappointed to see that GM is selling off there museum collection. I’m headed to Michigan in February and I’m going to check out the Chrysler Museum for sure!
