I saw an article on the news last week about this and spoke with a guy at cars and coffee today that told me about it too. He told me he wish he heard about it 2 weeks ago, since he was cleaning out his garage and tossed out 1 full City of Fitchburg trash can full of old car show trophies from when he used to good to car shows back in the mid 90’s.

So maybe next year if you are doing a little spring cleaning and are looking to make some room keep it in mind:

    Ryan,

Another option is the gentleman who runs ( and totally pays for everything to include food for participants) the Graduation Car Show in Jefferson every year. He gladly accepts and solicits donations of car show trophies which are rebuilt, refurbished, and used at next years car show. If anyone needs further information, I can certainly provide his name and contact information.

Thats just crazy in my opinion! He should donate those trophies to ones that could really use them. :P

This is a good idea. One could remove the engraved pieces and place them on a single wooden plaque along with their corresponding dash plaque as a memento of the event. This with a little photo of the car that got the trophies would look really nice in the den or garage.

It does feel good to play it/pay it forward.

I’ve been at this old car thing long enough to have some “old trophies”. I rounded up about a dozen or so from back when I first started foolin with these old cars and took them into Total Awards and Promotions in Madison this morning.

They were genuinely happy to get them and they assured me that they would be rebuilt and reburbished, then handed back out to non profits and charitable organizations, at no cost, in need of recognizing their staff.

Ryan, thanks for posting about this. Without your post, I never would have known about this program.

Turns out, the gentleman with the garage full of trophies is a vintage corvette owner from the Lake Mills area. “Jeff” has been attending and winning regquently at local car shows for about 20 years. He approached me at Heather’s Lake Ripley Show and I was able to put him in touch with Mike Spangler, who runs the Jefferson Graduation Car Show. “Jeff” has several cardboard boxes full of car show trophies which will be refurbished, refreshed and reused at the upcoming Jefferson Graduation Car Show, Spring 2010. Thanks “Jeff” for recycling and going green!
