Over the past few years, we’ve discussed car shows a lot and have seen some areas that could bring big improvement to already great shows. These improvements would help the shows grow and make them more enjoyable for everyone. In order to help facilitate these improvements, we’ve created the Wisconsin Collector Car Classes and Judging Standard, which represents the input, observations, and work of many of us who want to see car shows fairly represent all vehicles and be the best they can be.
We have recently completed the 2009 revision of the standard. You can view it at this link or on the WCC CJS page.
Now it is time to put these great ideas and improvements into action. We can help improve already great shows for the 2010 season by presenting the WCC Classes and Judging Standard to organizers and asking them to use it at their show. Participants will know that a show using this standard will fairly divide up classes and do their best to be impartial when judging. Moreover, participants to the show can visit the site http://www.carshowstandard.com to contribute their own ideas and improvements.

For starters, there is Jim and Vicki Nelson who run the Pardeeville Car Show. There have not been any judging issues at this show that I am aware of. It’s always been a judged show, and done very well from year to year. I have attended this show from the very first year so I have been fortunate to see this show grow by leaps and bounds. The issue that they are facing is unprecedented growth each new year, which translates to some of the individual classes being very large, but judging practices have never been an issue. The major issue fo them is getting enough car people to volunteer to participate as judges.
The other show that comes to mind is the Blanchardville Show, Frank Schlumpf’s show. Again, this is a show that has always been judged, and done very, very well from year to year. I have noticed that Frank mentors and instructs the judges each year, resulting in one of the best judged shows of the year. Frank is always looking for new judges each year.
