    Barrett Jackson Scottsdale 2010

If you have the Speed channel Barrett Jackson is on now (amazing some of the prices ($$$) the cars go for during this auction).

Some great cars going across the block. Bringing some good money also. Some of the smallest cars have brought some big money.

I talked to my friend in Scottsdale today, he’s attended BJ every year since he moved there. This year he got a bidders pass… While I was watching tonight I saw him on TV inspecting cars on the block. I was on the phone with him when they were bidding off the Ford Mustang race car, he was sitting behind Ron Pratt and said Pratt looked over to the guy sitting next to him and said “I wonder how much this car is going to cost me.” Then he ended up not even bidding on it, must be nice…

So tell me, what fun is that? Ron Pratt obviously has more money than any of us will ever know what to do with… I heard more than one comment last night that if you’re bidding against him, you’re in trouble. To just sit there and bid up all the charity cars so you can write it off…. that’s not entertainment, or enjoying the hobby ~ that’s GREED!

I agree. Ron Pratt made his money as a real estate developer in the Phoenix area. A good business to be in as the Southwest is one of the most growing areas of population these days. The recession must not have hurt him too bad…

Trucks have been very strong the the auction, this continues the trend from the past couple of years. GTO’s have also started to move up price-wise. Corvette’s of all year’s seem to have taken a big hit.

I for one am happy to see an avid capitalist like Ron Pratt giving so much to charity. No where on earth will you find giving a this happening. Thanks all in part to the free market system. Ron Pratt has every right to bid on what ever cars he sees fit. He also donated back a charity car to be resold on the block. As far as using it as a tax write off, he is just doing what all of us would do. If Ron Pratt wouldn’t have to worry about writing off 6 figure cars because he bares the top 75% of the tax burdon he could be busy creating new jobs. Im sure that Pratt would give anyway even without the tax write off. It’s not greed, its just smart business practice. Thats how he became a multimillionaire.

Yep. He has an extensive collection of cars, and probably 50% of them were charity donation vehicles.

Ron Pratt also keeps to himself, refusing to do any interviews on BJ or in the Phoenix media for that matter. I figure if he’s got the money to burn, he can burn it any way he wants – whether its thru greed or business practice. I was watching last and saw him drop about 600k in an hour between buying Davey Allison’s ’92 Daytona 500 backup car, Alice Cooper’s “Billion Dollar Babies” street rod, and another custom woody wagon.

I can only imagine what he has to pay in taxes a year…

On Speed on Friday one of the commentators said that Ron let him come to his facility to check things out. He said it was super clean full of cars, signs and other automotive memorabilia.

Maybe he is softening and some year will open it up for an interview ….

Did anyone see the Ring Brothers mustang go across last night? It was a beautiful car, but they sure took a hit on that one. The selling price had to be about half of what it cost to build it… I liked the nice, red color. They seem to paint everything in dull, muted colors.

I saw the tail end of a Ring Brothers Mustang that went for about $235,000 I believe. Was that the one?

No, this one went for much less.
