Should State workers be required to contribute to their pension? Currently they contribute nothing and end up with more retirement income than someone earning substantially more in the private sector. On the flip side State salaries can be quite a bit less than equivalent salaries in the private sector. Having State employees contribute could save the State up to $600 million a year.

    What do you think?

You have to look at it this way. They match 10% of my salary that goes into the WRS. So in reality that is still part of my income.

Now if I went back to industry I would expect to be paid more so I could put ~ the same amount or more into my retirement account.

No the State should continue paying.. I’ve been a state employee for 31 years. If people want to complain about state employees I tell them what’s the problem couldn’t you pass the test?
