This is something I find annoying when looking at an ad for a car. In the case of GTO’s, a Lemans cloned as a GTO should not be advertised in the GTO category. It is a waste of my time to look and find out it wasn’t originally what I was expecting it to be. Same can be said for a Shelby or any other model. What do others think?

I would agree. Unfortunately, this has been happening, I would suspect, for many years. Nowadays, it is even more important for a potential buyer to be extremely cautious of what he/she is buying. Cloned cars such as Pontiac LeMans built into GTOs, Mustangs built up to GTs, Cutlass’s built up to 442s, etc., may be difficult to detect until you know what to look for. It may take years for a novice to learn what to look for. I would never, ever, solely rely upon what a seller tells me to confirm what a car actually is.

When contemplating spending money for a collector car, it is essential to have an expert look at the car to make sure it is what it’s supposed to be. A second set of eyes is always beneficial.

Out of curiousity, are you referencing the recent ad on craiglist.madison for a vintage Lemans with the GTO front clip?

I am annoyed by any ad for Russ Darrow Kia that’s on the radio. The latest “Hans and Franz” ad makes me want to run over a litter of newborn puppies. Whoever they hired to run there ad marketing department should be replaced with Brad Childress

I agree, I change the station immediately and can’t help but wonder who thought that is funny?

What about CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP! Its as bad as TV commercials that are so much louder than the actual program…

Ballweg is about the same… I like nice, quiet car commercials!

I see Thorstad AUTOMOTIVE has a new commerical out, too bad they are “painting” a car with all the trim and tail lights still in it, ha! ;)

There are two major country music radio stations in the Madison area. I like them both about the same. But when one airs the “Middleton Ford – If you don’t see this on your car, you paid too much” commercial, I automatically change to the other station for the rest of the day.

For those of you who know me, you already know my history and lack of respect and disdain for Middleton Ford.

I detest the commercial where that god%^# pair of glasses with a chinese accent splits in two.

Darrow’s C-D-J ads remind me of those old Steamberg Homes commercials that used to air on WGN when I was a kid.

Anytime I see those Ballweg ads with Darlene Ballweg, I always expect her to hop a broom and fly away at the end. Her voice alone gives me the piss shivers.

Thorstad Automotive… I don’t give them a year. Especially after the incident I had over there yesterday

There is a KIA dealer in the Milwaukee area that has some little kid voice over in the background going “Wanna see ya inna KIA”. Drives me bonkers. Could be a Darrow dealer.

My dad always opined that whoever invented the first commercial with music should have been put to death. I’m hard pressed to argue.

But back to the original question about clones. While a clone does not have the legitimacy of the original, there simply are fewer of those rare models around than there are desirous owners. That’s why people “clone” them. Some guys would rather have an illegitimate clone than a genuine lesser-model. Personal choice, I think. Well, choice and budget I suppose.

Personally, I’d have no problem with a clone being included in the more desirable group – SO LONG AS IT’S IDENTIFIED AS A CLONE.

    Otherwise, it’s probably fraud.

I don’t have an issue with it being included in the group as long as it has clone in the title.

Another thing that is annoying is having multiple years in the title.
