In all of my infinite wisdom, I finally decided it was time to transfer my collector plates over. I’ve used them since I got them, but the last couple cars I had them on weren’t registered

With my new setup, I thought it was best to register the car (even though its had collector plates on it since my white tags expired last Sept). The transfer fee is now $150, and I had to send in photo’s of the car to show it was not modified, when did that start??

I can understand sending photo’s if one is applying for Hobbyist plates, because Hobbyist plates are for a modified structure vehicle and brand your title.

I hope DMV don’t drag this out over some minimal BS.

I think that’s pretty much standard now, several club members have had to do the same with both hobbyist and collector plates… maybe it’s the DMV’s way of making sure they are registering a “collector” vehicle and not the neighbors 1985 Ford Cube Van that’s held together by rust?

This is good information to know … Where you able to do this all online?

You can get the PDF of the form online, fill it out all nice and typed up, print it off and send it in – thats how I did it. One copy to DMV, one copy for the glove box.

Rachel, I hope you’re right and that DMV is doing this to keep rust boxes from licensing with collector plates, and that there isn’t some other agenda behind it.
