It seems to me some owners take the originality of their cars way too seriousely. It must take some of the fun out of the hobby. Here are a couple of quotes from a large Pontiac site.

    The wing nut controversy

‘The correct wing nut is plated black phosphate and is fitted with a small rubber gasket that seals to the lid.

There are no decals on the Ram Air assembly. I’d be surprised if GTOAA counted off for it since the team that Judges the ’69 – ’71 GTO Judge’s is extremely knowledgeable.’

    This really makes you think.

‘I have seen others plated silver as mine. Do you think black phosphate was used on all of them? If so, why?’

They will finally get to the bottom of it.

‘Muscle Collector……..you should be the guy to answer the wing nut question…
what kind of finish is on the wing nuts of your original ram air cars?’

This stuff always makes me laugh. Yes, if you want a concours assembly line show car, then go right ahead. But if you build a car your way, then some numbers nazi comes over to critique your project/car/build, well lets just say its a good way for them to get some free loose teeth.

I’ve never been that serious about numbers matching, or having the correct amount of paint on the heads of the intake bolts. I like to have stuff correct for the vehicle, but even I’m not that anal.

Cruise some of the Corvette sites sometime. Always good for a laugh. And they said Mopar guys are goofy…..
