+300 cars and they expanded this year into one of the lots. Lots of spectators… Nice Sunny day that started out with a little rain.

August 21, 2011 at 3:58 am #38624circletrackParticipantA little rain?! It rained like heck on the east side, we waited it out for an hour or so and drove at least half the way there in the rain… Great day once we got there though! They had about 50 cars less than last year, which wasn’t bad at all considering how crummy the day started.

The reason they had 50 cars less and it is going to keep shrinking is that Newtons have the attitude it is his show and not The Spring green Area Chamber of Commerce show. This show will continue to drop due to this. I was the one who took this show when it was in a small parking lot getting about 15 cars and revamping it and moving it on the street and laying it out. After I had the car show pretty much laid out Newton became part of it. Then when the car show drew 150 cars and looked like it was going to grow as I pretty much predicted other businesses in the area decided to come in and push me out. I was not even offered a part in it after I designed the show. The thing is I did this to promote my business just as the others do.
The thing is this car show will continue to shrink until it will be nothing in a couple of years because they do not have the ideas to keep it fresh and the trophy classes are pretty poorly set up. When I set this up I had the classes set up for Mopar, Camaro, Corvette, Ford, Mustang, Truck, Street rod, Custom, Import , stock and other classes that make more sense then going by decades which any TRUE automotive enthusiast knows cars did not go by decades when made. Hence, Muscle car for example is 1964 to 1972. Not 1960 to 1970.
The other reason this car show is falling off is the police were ticketing cars that were going to it last year. This is never a good thing. If someone is driving completely ignorant, and wreckless then, fine ticket them. Otherwise leave them alone when it is obvious they are going to a car show.
I guess the biggest part is I was deeply hurt when Newton and the businesses that wanted nothing to do with this show until I made it what it into a big draw, did this to me and after several years of no aknowledgement for my work I am going to voice this. I put alot of thought and time into coming up with ideas for this show and I feel I deserved better treatment then to just be thrown out as nothing.
August 22, 2011 at 4:07 am #38626circletrackParticipantThank you for your comments, but looking at the classes there is no 1960-1970 muscle car listed, they have them broken because there are so many cars between 1960-1972 that qualify for many classes.
I’ve been going to this show since it’s been in the streets and I do not see this show shrinking, I see it growing even more in the next few years. If nothing else, it would be nice to have it condensed as judging can be difficult when you have to search through the main drag and all the side streets.
The reason they were down in numbers was the rain… no one wants to bring their cars out if bad weather is in the forecast. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to see so many already there, a sign people really enjoy this show.
Best of luck to you.

I used that year range for an example. This car show is done. They have destroyed it by Todd Newton’s ego. It is not his show, It is the Spring Green Area Chamber of Commerce Car show. I was asked to design this then pushed to the side so he could be the king of it.
Yes you are right about the rain and people not bringing their cars out in that but that had little bearing on this show. This show will be nothing in 2 years time.
As far as other awards they have, The Thomas award should not be part of this show because it is a special additional award. When I said I was going to have my pick I was informed I could not do that cause that was a special award. What is the Thomas award then? Does it not fit into a special award?
August 22, 2011 at 11:11 pm #38628circletrackParticipantCar shows are very hard to plan and execute, and it sounds like you put lots of work into this show.
Todd is a friend and I’m sorry to say I see no ego, just a guy who enjoys cars, people and events that bring them together. The group he has is doing a great job with this show.
If nothing else, it’s possible you need to move on and put your efforts into another cause.

Are we talking about the same Todd Newton?! I’m suprised by your comments, and have to say that every interaction I’ve had with him, or any of his helpers, has been a positive experience.
The Tomas award is a memorial award given to a car that is selected by the Tomas family IIRC. Unless you’re part of the family, you have no right to pick the who that award goes to. I’m proud to say I know Eric Tomas, and not only is he one hell of a body man, he’s just one hell of a great guy in general.
Sounds like sour grapes to me. Its been awhile since we had someone up on the soapbox with a bad taste in there mouth… Perhaps ‘Cuda Man’ will chime in on this and give us his two wooden nickles. BTW, what other car shows do you attend with your classic?
August 23, 2011 at 12:16 am #38618AnonymousInactiveSo I just want to point out that when you joined this forum I believe you agreed you would not post hurtful demeaningful comments about people or businesses. I just thought I would remind you of that.
You also posted that you started this show and businesses pushed you out and took over. I’m just wondering if maybe they got a little taste of your business/tactful skills you have and realized that running an event this size was not in the best interest of the Chamber? You comment about how Todd thinks this is his show which I have never seen him post anything like that but you have several comments about when it was “your show” mentioning nothing about Chamber involvement so to me it seems you are the one claiming it was “your show” not Todd. I have met Todd at other shows and have never witnessed him having an “ego” problem as you put it. Also the police pulling someone over is not a problem with the car show. Obviously if the police pulled someone over it was because they deserved to be pulled over. It sounds as if you are a very jealous person that does not like to see others succeed. I believe this car show is only going to get bigger and better and I look forward to attending it every year. It says something about the success of a car show to have a torential down pour at the beginning of the show and still have the awesome turn out they did. I believe they put a lot of hard work into this show and it shows with the success that it has. If you have a problem with how the show is run or by who it is run than I would say find something else to do that day, and keep your derogative comments off this site.August 23, 2011 at 4:03 am #38619AnonymousInactiveOn behalf of the Spring Green Car Show staff, we would like to thank all of you that braved the stormy weather and came out to support the show. It didn’t look very promising at first but the weather cleared up and we had a great turn out. Congratulations to all of the forum members that won awards! We couldn’t do it without all of you and your great classic rides!
As far as Mr. Chip Grell goes, I’m not going to stoop down to his level. I think the unprofessional way he has displayed himself on the forum so far speaks for itself. If he has a problem, he should come directly to us instead of blasting his negative comments to the public. I guess next year we could add a “Whiner Award”.
My dad loved classic cars and passed along this interest to me at a young age. I would much rather have my dad at the show with me. But since that is not possible, giving the Dan Tomas Memorial Trophy is one way for our family to honor his memory and spread his passion for old cars to others.
Again, thank you all for coming out to the show and for your kind comments. We look forward to seeing you all in Spring Green in 2012!

I was pushed out and I have every right to state the true matters in this. I gave the others ample time to do the right thing and they did not. So now it is time to handle this in other methods.
The thomas award is a special award, I was told no special awards can be part of this show, It does not matter on good intentions or not if there is to be no special awards then honor the no special award rule. It is pretty simple. Whether is one hell of a body man or a nice guy or anything has little to do with the fact that there are to be no special awards. I mean no disrespect to the Thomas family in stating this, Just making valid points.
August 24, 2011 at 1:30 am #38621AnonymousInactiveI don’t know who you are Grell but I thought the show was awesome after the weather cleared! I remember walking around talking to the organizer at the the very first show by the vision center his name was Mr.Pronald! He said that some day he hopes to fill the town of Spring Green with cars some year ! Now I believe with newtons back ground with cars and car shows, the spring green show has been the best with newton in charge of show!

On behalf of the Road Apples ~ you are welcome!! We really enjoy this show, the drive in the morning, great atmosphere throughout the day and everything in between. I meant to tell you 3D was really good this year, not too overbearing and played some great music selections!
We’ll bring even more of the club next year, see you in 2012!

There are only a couple big shows in downtown areas like this and I think it makes a great atmosphere for a show with all of the shops and restaurants close by.
August 24, 2011 at 3:44 am #38622AnonymousInactiveMr Grell,
I don’t know you at all so I am trying to keep an open mind on this entire topic. I just joined this forum and thought this would be a good place to learn about various car shows that I can attend. I am amazed at what you have posted on here. I have read your posts and you keep stating that you were “pushed out” from this “Chamber event”. I’m assuming the Chamber has some say in who organizes this and who is involved. It seems that Mr. Newton probably is not the one who “pushed you out” but rather the Chamber may have asked you not to be a part? For whatever reason I don’t know. I don’t see how this is Mr. Newtons fault? By reading this it seems that they (the Chamber) probably were the ones that asked him to organize this event. It seems by everyone elses posts and by what I have seen for myself that it is a wonderful event for the community. It seems that your grudges about “being pushed out” should be more directed at the Chamber that is involved with this and not directed at Mr. Newton. Is there a reason that you have not directed your grudges at the Chamber instead? After coming to this car show for several years I would say they have a really good thing going here and I don’t see it being “gone” in two years. I think they have a wonderful team working together to put this on every year and I would ask you to please redirect your grudges at the person that deserves it (the Chamber) and let those that are organizing this show continue to do so, so that we can enjoy another wonderful show in 2012. -
