When I had older cars they had manual steering.
EDIT…. My older cars with manual steering were a ’66 Ford,
a ’69 Rambler, and a ’75 VW Rabbit.Had a Chevy Impala with power steering that went out. YIKES!!!! icon_eek.gif
My newer vehicles have power. I like power steering.
Both systems have good and bad features.
Power steering….
Good at very slow speeds and when parking.
BUT….. If something goes wrong, forget about steering!!It will be MUCH harder to steer.
Also might not give feedback on the way the car is handling.
Manual steering…..
Usually harder to steer at slower speeds and when parking.
Requires no maintainence.
Gives good feedback on the road conditions.
I agree completely, both are good in different situations but when it comes down to it Manual has less that goes wrong with it.

There was a great show about the AMX on
one of the cable channels.I like the power steering in my Almera. It’s so light that you can turn the wheel easily with your little finger when the car is stopped.
Automatic. I’m getting lazier as I advance in years. Plus, it’s the way I’ll ever drive a car in San Francisco.
