Update: Our old database is corrupt and is choking the new SQL server, so I have done a manual fresh install in a separate dirtectory, and I’m moving our database over table by table. I’m currently moving the posts 1000 at a time, so the app doesn’t choke, and with 54,000 to move, it’ll be a while yet.

The new installation will be at http://convopit.org/forum/index.php so that’s the one to bookmark, not the other path.

You can check in there to see the status if you want.

    Thanks for your patience.

Sounds like alot of work. How do you know the old database is corrupt? What causes that?

An error during the file copy, probably. It would load the index but it took forever to get into the forums and topics.

    We’re back up!!

Convo Pit is now back up and running with almost all the modifications reinstalled. I have a few more to do, but those shouldn’t disrupt the service.

    It’s really fast now icon_eek.gif icon_cool.gif icon_cool.gif

I can see these forums can take alot of time to keep everything working well.

Not really, once they are setup they pretty much take care of themselves. Besides the occasional database backup there’s really nothing to do. If you wanted you could just do a plain vanilla install and be done with it.

They are relatively painless to install the actual base forum code and keep going.

The pain in the butt is reinstalling all the mods because invariably something backfires trying to copy it over. I just finished a 3-day marathon session replacing all the hacks on my site. Add to it typos in the mod instructions and it makes for an interesting time. I had to manually restore every table in the database to a fresh install so I wouldn’t lose all the posts, games, scores, Dollies, etc.

It’s all done now, though thumbsup.gif And the site is screaming fast and rock-solid, so it was worth it.
