This is something I find annoying when looking at an ad for a car. In the case of GTO’s, a Lemans cloned as a GTO should not be advertised in the GTO category. It is a waste of my time to look and find out it wasn’t originally what I was expecting it to be. Same can be said for a Shelby or any other model. What do others think?
I would agree. Unfortunately, this has been happening, I would suspect, for many years. Nowadays, it is even more important for a potential buyer to be extremely cautious of what he/she is buying. Cloned cars such as Pontiac LeMans built into GTOs, Mustangs built up to GTs, Cutlass’s built up to 442s, etc., may be difficult to detect until you know what to look for. It may take years for a novice to learn what to look for. I would never, ever, solely rely upon what a seller tells me to confirm what a car actually is.
When contemplating spending money for a collector car, it is essential to have an expert look at the car to make sure it is what it’s supposed to be. A second set of eyes is always beneficial.
Out of curiousity, are you referencing the recent ad on craiglist.madison for a vintage Lemans with the GTO front clip?
