As of next Tuesday you can’t drive legally in Wisconsin without having Auto insurance. I think this is a no-brainer, Wisconsin is one of just a few states that didn’t have this requirement. I don’t like giving more business to insurance companies, but this is probably something that should of been done long ago.

    What do you think?

I think its a good idea, but I also think there will still be people driving without it.

Every week the Sun Prairie paper lists court news. There are always a bunch of people driving without licenses I’ll bet they don’t have insurance either.

Here in Fitchburg, our municipal court is broadcast live every other week on our FACT (Fitchburg Access Community Television) channel. Municipal court typically takes about 1.5 hours or longer each session, and many of the non English speaking violators do not have valid driver’s license or insurance. They simply choose to drive without a license or insurance. I wonder how they can purchase, own, or register a vehicle without a license or insurance? We have so many that there is a translator hired by the court who translates at every session, between the judge and the violator.

Call me naive, but before the media coverage, I assumed (wrongly) that one must have insurance coverage in order to get a car registered or to purchase license plates. Obviously, I was wrong.

It is not flattering to know that Wisconsin was 49th out of the 50 states to make car insurance mandatory.
