I enjoy watching the action unfold at this auction on TV. However, the prices that are realized at this auction will not be very accurate or reflective of what is really going on in the collector car market at this time.
Many times, big egos with big pocketbooks to match end up battling with bigger egos who have bigger pocketbooks. The result is inflated prices. Unfortunately, there will be some sellers who try to use the prices from the Barrett-Jackson auctions as a basis for pricing driver quality cars.
October 8, 2009 at 2:43 am #35513Amigo2kModeratorI agree with Marshall on this. To say it was a Barrett Jackson car means the price will be inflated, but it is still nice to see the cars roll on by….

Old Barney Fife wouldn’t know what to say about the price on his squad car. Nice looking Mustang, low mileage at 16000. I like that Cobra in yellow with a black stripe.

Did you see the two women who wanted that Barney Fife recreation squad car? They were bidding against each other, running the bid up and up to where the final bid was simply outrageous!!! Just my opinion, but the final bid was about four times what the car was actually worth.
The second generation Firebirds and Trans Ams have really taken off in value this year.

If they drop the hammer and the sold price is 30,000 you, the buyer, pays 10% of the hammer drop to Barrett Jackson + the seller pays 8%. So Barrett Jackson makes 5400 on a 30,000 dollar sale. I’m not sure what Mecum charges, but they will selling some cars near their reserve and Mecum was droping their standard rate to like 1000 bucks to get the car sold…..
