From the shows you attended this year what were the best and worst experiences? Will you attend that show again next year if you had an unpleasant experience?

I remember Albany as being a nice, new experience this year. They have a nice location for a show and it was a very relaxing day
October 11, 2007 at 4:37 am #30825circletrackParticipantLet me think on this one, we attended so many this year. For me two personal highs were winning Best of Show at the House of Horsepower and Oregon MIS Show, I’ll never forget those moments!
I have certain shows that stick out that we love attending ~ Fox Lake and Pardeeville. I also look foward to Automotion as it gets everyone out of the house after a long winter and our club always stays in the Dells for the weekend, it’s a great time to get away before summer sets in.
Great topic, I’ll be back with more!
October 12, 2007 at 9:13 pm #30826Eclipse_TunerParticipantFor me, I always love Beaver Dam and Manitowoc. The House of Horsepower show was great too (as was taking their best interior).
I am growing more and more unhappy with Fox Lake. Judging has been becoming more and more of who you know rather than the quality of the vehicle. That was very much the case this year in the “imports-all years” class, with a stock Subaru and Evo taking trophies over the vintage Triumph, MG, or my Eclipse.
Oh well, Im looking forward to another good season next summer.
October 14, 2007 at 3:23 pm #30827GTO ManModeratorI can’t think of any real lows , they were all fun that I attended. As has been said Automotion is always a good time to kind of start the year out. There was some poor weather on some weekends of shows I went to in previous years. I also thought Albany was a good show for a smaller one. I will input more later.
October 14, 2007 at 4:02 pm #30828moparkid25ParticipantThe shows I enjoy each year are always Automotion, Don Miller Mopar Show, Reedsburg in July, The Mopar Happening in Belivdere, Mopars on the Mississippi, Pardeeville, and a few others.
Automotion is a great way to start out the summer. My friends and I always stay in the Dells that weekend, so we can enjoy the show and the nightlife. The show is always good, and gets bigger every year.
The Don Miller Mopar show is a small event. A few years ago, the old guard that ran this club made some huge mistakes and pissed off a lot of people. There turn out the last few years has only been 25-35 cars, but I see a lot of nice cars and its a short drive which is also nice. Also on this day, they have the all Pontiac show next door, and they cater in Brat and Brau, which isn’t bad either.
Monroe is also a good show. I don’t enjoy how they park the cars, but this is an old city with a lot of great history!! My Dad’s side of the family is from neighboring Brodhead, so I have spent my fair share of time down that way along with cruising the square when I was in high school! I have many friends from the area and it makes for a great day. My sweet tooth also allows me to spend a good chunk of change in the old time pharmacy on milkshakes!
The Reedsburg show that is put on by the KOC is also a great show. I was there with my aunt who bought a very nice Buick Reatta (I promise I’ll never use those words in the same phrase again), it was her first car show and not only did she win a great door prize, she won an award in her class!! Between her, ddhemi, and myself we walked away with a lot of hardware and some great prizes! The setting is nice, there’s some great cars you don’t see around the Madison area, and the food is delicious. Next Year they are moving this show to a park in Reedsburg, as they are expecting a larger turnout again.
Mopar Happening in Belvidere, IL is a nice two day event. This year, one of my personal highlights was seeing the new Mr. Norm’s GSS Dart resto mod. It is a classed show with participant judging. Though I did enjoy the show, I noticed during the awards presentation a lot of “Staff” shirts won awards icon_scratch.gif Oh well, it was a beautiful day, a great ride, and I saw a remendous amount of cool cars!!
This was the first year I attended Spring Green, and this is a show that is a must-attend next year! I like the settings, there were a lot of great cars, the food from local pubs and restaurants was great, all in all made for a great day. I’d also be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the Dan Tomas Mopar Collection!
Mopars on the Mississippi is also a Mopar only event held the last weekend in August. Dubuque is a nice drive from where I live, and now Hwy 151 is all four lane to get there! Also participant jugded, the ballots seemed to turn out a little bit fair at this show. The local boy scouts take care of the concessions, the swap meet has a great selection of Mopar parts (and Johnny Lightning cars, I think I spent about $40 on them this year) and cars for sale.
Pardeeville is also one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. I enjoy Pardeeville mainly because a huge part of my family history sets in that town. I have many cousin’s who still live there that I get to see when I’m there, and my mom is a 1971 graduate of the High School. When I called to get some info on that show, it turns out the fella that puts it on knows my mom and played in the band with her!! It’s cool, small world stuff like that that gives me a good feeling inside and makes the day more enjoyable. The Pardeeville show is also for a good cause.
I also enjoy the Platteville show. I’ve been attending this one for a few years now and always has a great turnout. My only bitch with this show is that more help is needed for the judges-not because there isn’t enough of them, but because they are getting up there in years. This show has been going on for 34 years!! These fella’s aren’t running any marathons anymore, and I noticed its getting harder for them to get down and really judge the vehicles.

October 14, 2007 at 5:11 pm #30829circletrackParticipantOk, I thought about this a bit more…
I like the shows that are held in the smaller towns, there seems to be more to do and they are more entertaining. I also think the promoters care more about what you have to say and actually listen to your advice. Spring Green was a great show this year, I know we all received thank you notes from Todd Newton and that matters. I talked to him a couple weeks after the show and he was still asking for advice to make this show even better ~ love that! Vicky & Jim at Pardeeville also do the same and try to personally thank everyone that attends. I know we’ve been to plenty of shows over the years where no one says anything to you ~ just pay your $$$ and park your car. The DeForest show was also nice, despite the rain. They’ve worked hard to get this show back on track and will only improve as time goes on. I would like to see them get a bit more help for this show and know the Fire Department benefits from it.
There were a couple shows we won’t be back to, including the one in Janesville on Labor Day. That was a participant voting show (which is fine at most shows), but this time around it was clear the locals all voted for each other, leaving out some very good shows that should’ve won awards. Beaver Dam did a good job with the number of cars in the park but the judging was way off ~ how can you have a 70 Cyclone and a 92 Mustang Hatchback in the same class and the Mustang walks away with the award? Two totally different cars. Some of the judging was also done in the rain and I feel if that’s the case, as soon as the sun came out, those cars should’ve been judged again. Everything looks great when it’s wet!
Blanchardville is always a great time, I just wish it wasn’t so darn HOT! My kids love swimming in the pool, the park is a great setting for that show. The HOH show did well this year also for their first show at the VFW, which was long overdue. I know they will continue to improve and received good feedback for their first event. Dave at MIS did a nice job and will improve next year. He got a late start and realizes how important advertising well in advance is.
The lows for me would be judging that’s not done fairly and/or the shows that don’t have enough judges and don’t ask for help or have judges that don’t know what to look for. I saw some very young kids judging this year, I know most of these cars were around long before they were even born! The music tends to be offensive at some shows. I’ve said before 3D did a nice job at Spring Green but were horrible at Edgerton. The same person didn’t do both shows, but consistency would nice. I like listening to the music, not the person talking over the music or making offensive comments.
I put the Chevelle into storage yesterday, we will work on it a bit this winter. The summer months go way too fast, but most of all with any show I think it’s the friendships we make/maintain that make these shows successful. Afterall, if no one shows up or tells their friends/family about the great times we all have, nothing would exist. The calendar is full week after week with something for everyone, we should all be thankful for that!
October 16, 2007 at 5:27 pm #30830Eclipse_TunerParticipantcircletrack: I totally agree with you on MIS…that show has huge potential. And yes, the bias judging in Janesville was terrible. Thats how Fox Lake is becoming even in its concourse judging style.
October 18, 2007 at 9:44 pm #30831GTO ManModeratorI went to a number of shows this year I had not been to before. One was Watertown which turned out to be a great show. It is in a nice park and there was allot going on besides the show. Another one was Fox Lake which is a large show in a park setting. The weather was perfect. I also agree with others about the Spring Green Show. It is a great setting and I think it will get bigger and bigger. There is a show in Appleton I have heard about that brings in over a 1000 cars, and its free.
October 19, 2007 at 1:00 pm #30832circletrackParticipantWatertown is a great show also! The park setting combined with Riverfest is always a good time. They get some really nice cars there you dont’ always see at other shows.
The Verona show this year had it’s share of issues but I think it’s because they don’t have enough help with the club doing the show. It had been years since we were there, I’m not sure if we will go back. I also attended the Stoughton show for the first time in many years and was very disappointed to see it was moved from the park where it should be held to a parking lot behind the downtown buildings! If you advertise one location and move it without telling anyone ~ it’s never a good thing. I understand they want to make it more of a “downtown local” event, but this didn’t work. I’m fairly certain they will move it back to Mandt Park based on the feedback received that day.
February 21, 2008 at 3:32 am #30833GaribaldiKeymasterHere’s a new question that’s related to this topic: as we know there are often weekends where you have to choose between several shows – this year will you pick to go to new, smaller shows that you haven’t been to before rather than the larger shows that you frequented in previous years? I know that we’ve been hearing about a lot of small shows with big potential!
February 21, 2008 at 6:32 pm #30834Eclipse_TunerParticipantthere are a few larger shows that have become tradition for me to attend, like Beaver Dam, Manitowoc. But I do like smaller shows, so Ill be looking for more of those this year, as long as they have a class for me to enter in, Im game.
February 21, 2008 at 8:41 pm #30835AnonymousInactiveThere are certainly a few weekends this year that will have multiple shows happening on the same day. It will be difficult to decide which show to go to.
For example, I noticed that for 2008, the De Forest Show is being held on the same day as the Deerfield Show. I have been to both and I would like to attend both in 2008, so how do you decide? I did not attend De Forest in 2007 because of the rain, but I did attend the 2007 Deerfield Show. I am not sure how I will decide on this set of shows. One is a Show and Shine and the other is a judged show, or at least that’s how they were in 2007.
As I have posted before, my goal for 2008 is to make sure that I get to those shows that I did not attend in 2007. The Watertown show is important to me, because I have not been there. I would like to get to the Platteville show also. I would also like to attend the MIS show this year.

February 21, 2008 at 9:18 pm #30836jonmandudeParticipantFor me, and I am sure for Eclipse-tuner as well, it will depend on classes and year limits. Without the Challenger this year, I will have to look for shows that are import friendly and still attended by those I know.
February 21, 2008 at 9:52 pm #30837AnonymousInactiveI would suggest the Verona Home Town Days Show in June. I have attended this show for the past 4 or 5 years and the imports, both stock and modified classes, seem to do very, very well there. A couple of years ago (2006?),a young lady with a pink import (very nicely done) won a Best of Show award. And, it was certainly deserved.

February 24, 2008 at 11:02 pm #30838mr_skeetsParticipantHey Guys & Gals
I was at the show myself. I was parking cars all day. I had people tell me weeks after that they too thought that people were stuffing votes. I was not awhere of it and neither was Gordie Boucher. They will do things a little different in 08. It is a shame that people do this at a show that is peoples choice. Only thing I can say is that this was the second show for them so lets cut them some slack. As for one person winnig more than once for the same car that will not happen again. Insted of bashing them here voice your feeling to them. They were very happy with the turn out they had. One more thing is that some people were unhappy about the mustangs. The mustang were more or less the feature car, remember this a Ford dealer ship that didn’t charged us anything to show, eat,or drink. So I ask that you give them another shot.
Thanks for listening
