Favorite Show –
I have 3 of them:
1. Back to the 50’s Where else are you going to see +11,000 cars 1964 and older, 100’s of real vendors (not used junk vendors), and access to walk in to watch a live Mecum auction!
2. Vintage Torque Fest All Rockabilly including the vendors
3. Mid America VW Funfest +400 VWs, vendors, tech sessions, games, live bands and cruises.
And a 40 mile cruise with my Dad:
Least Favorite Show –Not a Show but the Quaker Steak and Lube cruise ins are getting pretty old and I don’t see them doing much to try to bring in more cars … they do so much for bike night but very little for the car night (I think they can forget the bands and piano guy they had there every Thursday)
Most annoying trend at this year’s shows –
Watching people hand out dollar bills for votes
People who are retired that list their home address of their southern retirement home so they can win the longest distance award.
Biggest disappointment this year –
Rain rain and more rain
Best new trend at shows –
Not so much at the show, but I do like it when the promoters come here to hype up the show, answer questions and let people know about things that are going on at the show that are not on the flyer.
Did you attend as many shows as the previous year? –
Fewer shows with my car.
Will you attend more or less shows next year? –
Right now I’m thinking about going to Automotion in May and that is it. Over the past 6 years of attending shows, I enjoyed the cars, the people and getting a chance to drive my car. I went to fewer shows this year and I may try something different next year.
Currently my car is listed on Craigslist and a VW site for Trade only (plus I’ll hand over some cash) for a 1967 or older VW Bus(here is an example of something I would be interested in) or the right Karmann Ghia. My dad called me the day after I posted it on craigslist, because one of his friends spotted it … I know it is a shot in the dark for a trade like this, but I thought I would try this and come spring I’ll put a real price on it and see what happens. If it is not sold by next summer I’m thinking about taking it in to Newton’s to have the hood fixed and respray the hood out.
As much as I enjoy having a car that I can turn the key and go I think it is time to move on to something else …
Would you rather attend a cruise-in or a car show? –
Depends. If a car show has a lot of other things to do (bands, games, tech sessions, stores nearby) then I’m interested in sticking around for the whole show.
What are your overall impressions of this year’s shows?
More new shows are popping up and more people are jumping into the hobby. I think collector cars are the new “cool thing” to have now, because if they are bought right, and treated right you can enjoy it and sell it down the road for close to what you got it for or even make a little money (unlike the “cool thing” 10-20 years ago which were boats).
October 21, 2010 at 3:18 am #37200AnonymousInactiveRyan, well said……
I, too, am backing off and attending many fewer shows than in years past.
I am not aggresively marketing my car, but it is for sale and I will sell it when a buyer comes along who offers the right money!
This past year was an interesting year at the local shows. I ran into the older gentleman at the Deerfield Rod and Gun Club Show who was walking around asking votes for his car. In exchange, he promised to vote for your car. I also met the elder gentleman at the Spring Green show who was aggressively asking for votes for his car. Both of these guys were new to the local car shows.
Next year, I don’t see me attending near as many shows as in years past. I may attend a couple of shows, but that will be it. I am planning on judging at Blanchardville and Pardeeville.
October 21, 2010 at 4:03 am #37195moparkid25ParticipantA few questions about the car shows in 2010:
Favorite Show – Out of all of the shows I attended, I would have to say my favorite show was the Jesus Built My Hot Rod show in Janesville. This is a well run show with no pressure, and its for a good cause, which is to raise money for a house of worship.
Least Favorite Show – QSL. I hate the overpriced food, the bar staff always seems to have an attitude, they don’t promote car night as much as they do bike night, and its always the same people with the same cars in the same cliques. Its a half hour one-way for me to get there, and I can’t say I had a good time any time I was at QSL this year.
Most annoying trend at this year’s shows – The old guy from Monticello that cheats to get a trophy. At the Armory, he wrote down he was from Monticello, IA to win the farthest distance award. Same dude left the Oregon show because the awards were plaques and not trophies… How did he think he would even win an award?? 3D Sound still needs to do some employee turn-over, I’m tired of the same old, same old with them.
Biggest disappointment this year – The weather. It was either raining to beat hell or blistering hot.
Best new trend at shows – Survey cards. That gives each person the chance to privately rate that show, and it doesn’t spill into a pissing match on WCC.
Did you attend as many shows as the previous year? – Not sure. I don’t keep track.
Will you attend more or less shows next year? – Less. I’m tired with car shows, and frankly I’m glad the season is over. Next year I’m thinking of attending Automotion, and shows that either my entry fee will go to a good cause or non-judged shows. I’ve learned alot about myself, and one thing is that I am proud of my car no matter how nice it is or isn’t. I worked for it, I paid for it, I drive it, and I enjoy it. I have nothing to prove, and I am not a status symbol.
Would you rather attend a cruise-in or a car show? – I would rather attend a cruise in. No awards, no judging, just a place to drive in, check out some cars, and leave when I want. I enjoy the Monroe cruise ins during the month of July.
What are your overall impressions of this year’s shows? I had fun for the most part, but I’ve had some lifestyle changes that effected how I enjoy shows. By the end of the season, I wasn’t enjoying myself and thinking about the other things I could be doing. I went to a few new shows and I can’t say anything bad about them, but I went to a few shows that are established and wasn’t impressed with some changes that were made. That’s the bricks I guess.
October 25, 2010 at 4:49 pm #37196Eclipse_TunerParticipantFavorite Show – Swan City Car show, and the Armory Show
Least Favorite Show – FOX LAKE. I think we all saw Tony and his friends’ true colors after we rated the show.
Most annoying trend at this year’s shows – Vote buying, and late model Mustang snobbery (some owners were cool…others, not so much).
Biggest disappointment this year – The rain. And the inability of a few show organizers to take constructive critisism.
Best new trend at shows – Earlier award times.
Did you attend as many shows as the previous year? – About the same, maybe one or two less.
Will you attend more or less shows next year? – Probably about the same amount.
Would you rather attend a cruise-in or a car show? – Either is fun.
What are your overall impressions of this year’s shows? Some organizers really understand today’s car culture, and some have their head in the sand. Modern car culture has become very dynamic, where the younger generations are taking it just as seriously as the older crowd. Mike from Krystal Images (also runs the Ashippun Show) did a great job embracing that mentality at his show. I recommend all organizers to take heed of how he goes out of his way to include all car genres.
October 27, 2010 at 1:23 am #37213GTO ManModeratorFavorite Show – Ryan’s Napa Auto Care show in early May was my favorite. That was an enjoyable day. I didn’t to nearly as many shows as I might of because the weather sucked.
Least Favorite Show – The show at Don Miller, no food, no music, enough said.
Most annoying trend at this year’s shows – One of the trends is the shows that have become participant voting, . I would rather the show have no awards and better door prizes or have awards like they did at Stoughton with the sponsors picking the winners. Otherwise it is basically a popularity contest. One of the shows that stood out and is participant voting was the Jesus Built My Hot Rod Show, it was very well organized and made it easier o vote.
Biggest disappointment this year -The weather was the biggest disappointment. Not much you can do about it though.
Best new trend at shows – More shows moving up the awards. It can get to be a very long day when they are after 4. And the shows where the organizers are checking on the weather.
Did you attend as many shows as the previous year? – Not nearly as many.
Will you attend more or less shows next year? – I plan on trying some different shows next year. Some of the shows get stale after a couple of years.
Would you rather attend a cruise-in or a car show? – I like both but cruise-ins are becoming more appealing because of the time involved. If a show is connected to a downtown or a festival of some kind it adds allot. Shows that are stuck in some isolated location can be very boring.
What are your overall impressions of this year’s shows? Shows that I went to this year were for the most part average. It seems that some of the shows take us for granted. They expect us to show up, pay the entry fee and provide little else. A 2 liter bottle of pepsi is not a door prize. No imagination.
October 27, 2010 at 1:26 am #37214circletrackParticipantFavorite Show – I’m not sure if it counts around here, but we had a blast at Back to the 50’s! I would highly suggest you all add this to your “bucket list”, it’s a great event from start to finish. I was so surprised how friendly everyone was, and the quality and amount of cars is just amazing!! Locally, the Spring Green and Pardeeville shows continue to be my favorite. You can tell the organizers pour everything they have into these shows to make them the best they can.
Least Favorite Show – I really didn’t have one this year, there were several shows that we didn’t attend either due to the surgery my daughter had, or the uncooperative weather.
Most annoying trend at this year’s shows – I’ve said this many times, but new cars don’t necessarily belong at shows, and if they do participate ~ they certainly should not win best of show!! There is no reason for cars 40 and 50 years old being in the same classes with cars I can see at the local dealership. Either have separate awards, or recognize the differences.
Biggest disappointment this year – The weather, it was either raining or cold way too many weekends. The nicest weather all summer long was the last 3 weeks, when the show season was over. I also didn’t appreciate some of the bashing that went on between a couple shows in the area, there is no reason for that. As a promoter of a show, I was very disappointed to see an event held in the same location a week before the Road Apples show, but I don’t think it hurt our attendance. Promoters need to work together, not against each other.
Best new trend at shows – I also appreciate the earlier awards times, especially if you’re a long ways from home. I also like promoters that want to know how they can improve their shows and actually LISTEN and take action on the suggestions.
Did you attend as many shows as the previous year? – I think we attended less this year, we have our favorites.
Will you attend more or less shows next year? – Probably about the same
Would you rather attend a cruise-in or a car show? – Either is fine with me.. the thing we have to understand is just a few years ago there was a handful of cruise nights and shows that had been held for years. Now there are multiple cruise nights every night of the week and enough shows to keep everyone entertained for months spread throughout the state. In some ways we are spoiled, and in other ways it hurts the events as people tend to get burned out and look for something new.
What are your overall impressions of this year’s shows? I think this year went well, unfortunately the summers always go way too fast. There are a few shows we missed this summer, and I’m always game for traveling to somewhere new. It’s time to start planning for 2011!

Any car newer than XX years can only go into “Modern Muscle” or “Special Interest” or “Import” – something along those lines. I wonder if these shows are not aware of the problem or do not believe they can factor in extra classes for the show budget?

The only problem with a special interest class is I’ve seen several Mustangs in that class, and I don’t necessarily consider those special interest cars (no offense to anyone). If nothing else, the classes need to be clearly defined.
November 2, 2010 at 11:51 am #37227GTO ManModeratorMaybe a show could have two ‘Best of Show’ winners. One for pre 1990 and one for 1990 and above. The newer cars should not be judged against the real’collector’ cars. For example in the case of Mustang’s there are so many specialty Mustangs that they have little meaning.
I don’t mean that the newer cars won’t be considered ‘collecter cars’ at some point, they just aren’t old enough to qualify currently.

Annual Corn Roast put on by the Wisconsin Street Rod Association in Fond du Lac on Labor Day weekend. also any show I’m directly involved with as DJ or artist. I also like the Port Washington Fish Days show…very relaxing.Least Favorite Show –
Any Goodguy’s event. Most annoying trend at this year’s shows –
Dollars for votes…since when did ACORN get involved with car shows LOLBiggest disappointment this year –
Solid Gold McDonald’s cruise night losing attendance, and the “don’t really care” attitude by the owners.Best new trend at shows –
i don’t know if it’s a trend, but the free Ice Cream at the Road Apple’s show was very thoughtful.Did you attend as many shows as the previous year? –
YesWill you attend more or less shows next year? –
YesWould you rather attend a cruise-in or a car show? –
I like both, but I think I did more shows than cruises…only because I DJ a cruise night in Muskego and work (day job) has been crazy this past summer. What are your overall impressions of this year’s shows?
Over all nice. I appreciate the organizers who have hired me to DJ at their shows and the organizers who invited me to come and draw cars.
November 10, 2010 at 12:01 pm #37242circletrackParticipantFree ice cream will be back!
November 11, 2010 at 4:47 pm #37198AnonymousInactiveFavorite show: I would have to say Iola. Always the best.
Least Favorite: Oxford.
Most annoying trend:New cars. Way too many new Mustangs Cameros Chalengers..An old name does not make it an old car.
Biggest disappointment:People are putting to much of winning or not winning trophies.
Best new trends:More shows offering show only class.
Attendence: No. I have gone to less shows this year. Registration fees are just getting to high.
Shows next year: Most likely less. The cost is getting to high
Rather attend: Cruise nights..More informal. people there just having fun not worrying about winning.
Impressions:It was an ok season. Cost seems to be rising. hard to justify 15.00 or 20.00 to sit at someones show.
November 12, 2010 at 12:00 am #37247circletrackParticipantWhat shows do you attend that charge that much? I know I didn’t pay more than $10 for any show I attended this year, a few times less.
Unless the show was a bigger show, or had something to compensate the extra $$$, I would not pay that much.
November 12, 2010 at 3:31 am #3719978cruisingwagonParticipantFavorite Show – Volo Toys for Tots Cruise.I did it the past two years,Great Fun!
