I received a phone call today from a “car sponsorship broker”. The person spoke like a high school kid trying to sound cool, with a heavy use of “man” and “dude” and “awesome”. They wanted $89 from me to enter the sponsorship program so I could “begin to save money”. When I asked him to email me more information, I was responded with “I can get you approved today”. The promise was that I would get reimbursed for costs on products after I win trophies at local car shows, or I would get discount “points” for handing out fliers and stuff at car shows.
I feel sorry for the kids with no money who get scammed by this. I have received parts under endorsement deals before. They never asked me for money, sold me parts for huge savings (often 50% or more off) and only asked for me to place a decal on my vehicle for one year.
If you know young car enthusiasts who could fall for this, warn them. If it sounds too good to be true…
