I was one of eight Mustangs that were in this year’s show. There was a beautiful Calypso Coral 1969 Boss 302 from Minnesota in the show. There was a gorgeous Poppy Red 1966 Fastback 2+2 from Fond du Lac. The other six pony cars (I think) were from Southern Wisconsin. There was a Springtime Yellow 1966 Mustang GT coupe parked behind me from Oregon, WI. This owner has owned his car for 25 years and it is an original unrestored car, and he only drives it once or twice a year.
The Mustang parked in front of me was a nice resto mod 1965 Mustang Coupe from Fitchburg (of all places, my stomping grounds) that I had never seen before. I am not certain how the out of town, out of state cars heard about this show.

I did see this show advertised in the Wisconsin State Journal several weeks prior to the show. Also, this show is always held on this same date each year, and this past year was their 4th annual show.

Also, there were plenty of radio ads on 94.9 a few weeks prior to the show. All excellent ways to market a show.

The show isn’t invitation only. People submit the information and a picture of their car. They then select a representation of different cars to be displayed. I think many of the cars that were there don’t normally go to shows.

If your registration is accepted, aren’t you “invited” to attend this show?

I’ve always heard that this show draws a very nice selection of vehicles for display. My concern was the $20 registration to “maybe” get accepted, especially given the current economic rollercoaster we are on.

We hold all checks until the cars are selected. If your car will not be in the show we will return your check. Likewise if you give us a credit card number it will only be charged if you are going to be in the show. Much of the registration fee goes to Madison Metro as we have to pay them to detour the buses off State Street during the show.

Thanks for posting a review Marshall! As you highlighted, I think this really is a unique experience worth a try at least once. Having exposure to a different crowd can be interesting too as you will have a different type of conversation and interaction than at normal shows

I wasn’t able to say that quite as eloquently as you did, but that was my point about this show.

The car owners in front of me and behind me – I had never met before. Yet the guy with the yellow 66 GT Coupe parked behind me was from Oregon, WI and had owned his car for 20 plus years. He stopped going to the shows many, many years back. He enjoys driving his car during the summer. The 65 Mustang Coupe parking in front of me was from Fitchburg, and I had never seen the car before, or talked to the driver.

The crowds on State Street (especially the older folks)seemed to like the cars for their sentimental value. I enjoy seeing people admiring the cars, starting with a smile on their face. You can just see the joy and good memories that the cars invoke.

This show is a great, informal and relaxing way to start off the new year of shows, right here in our own backyard. With all the college aged kids up and down state street, it will also make you feel much younger than you actually are!
