We’re having a huge problem with our host company. Their database server has choked and their response to it is “Your site is just too popular”.

Gee thanks, that helps me out icon_surprised.gif

So Convo Pit will be down today. I’m currently moving to a new dedicated server which should put an end to this Mickey Mouse crap with shared plans we’ve been seeing.

I’ll work on moving us until we’re moved successfully. But it’ll be much later this evening before we’re on the air again. We have to wait for the domain name to propagate through the internet, and I have a huge set of files and a gargantuan database to migrate over. It’ll be awhile people.

I’ve put a temporary redirect and webpage at the site to keep everyone informed on status and est. time of return. Just use the same bookmark, or go to:

    http://convopit.org/forum3/index.html

I apologize for this recent outage. You’ve all been patient with the forum upgrade I just did a week ago, and now this crybaby2.gif

Rest assured I will be working on this until it’s back up, even if that means pulling an all-nighter.

    Thanks Andy.

Convo Pit is running on the new server. The nameservers pointing the domain “convopit.org” to our new hosting company aren’t switched over yet, but that’s just a matter of time. It’ll be some time today.

In the meantime, I have the server set up, the database is purring along and everything looks good. I can go in directly using an IP address in a protected “https://webpreview” area and buzz out bugs and stuff before the domain is reachable.

Here’s a screen grab of the forum running on the new dedicated server:

I figured this was the issue… All I’ve been getting is name server errors (so that redirect isn’t working – for me anyway).

Could be up to 72 hours for everthing to filter down the DNS – at least now I know what’s hapenning…

The errors are starting to make sense. Earlier I could access the forum and post and do everything by using the IP address/forum3/index.php.

Now when I enter the same address, it says at the bottom of the browser : “Trying to find convopit.org”. It’s linking the IP to the name, which is just what it’s supposed to do.

Everything is up and running when I stopped being able to access it. Now it’s just a matter of time before the name resolves all over the net and we can resume our postwhoring …at light speed with no errors icon_punk.gif icon_punk.gif

    This new server is NASTY-FAST!!! jumpy.gif icon_punk.gif

It’s got hair on it!!! w00t.gif

Funny it hasn’t filtered through yet – is it working for anyone else?

Are you using the same name servers? Did you update your registrar with the new name servers?

Yes, the problem is with our name server. For some reason it didn’t get to the Convo Pit. It’s being worked on now and hopefully shouldn’t be much longer. wave.gif

I had set up the nameservers for our domains but there was a glitch in the system and their nameservers didn’t get the individual records (CNAME, A, etc.). A tech manually entered it this evening and said it would take up to 6 hours. That was about 2 hours ago.

I made the nameserver changes with the domain registrars yesterday.

The site top page comes up: http://convopit.org but not the forum. It shows a blank page.

I just sent another trouble ticket about a possible problem with the PHP/SQL server. I should hear something soon. They’re pretty fast at this place.

Yup… Top page is working and my guess it’s the sql… My thoughts are that if it was php you’d get an error.

    Getting close though!

Cap is on the phone with the Tech right now. We’ll see what happens. thumbsup.gif

The Tech thinks it’s a propagation issue so it will probably be a couple hours until it’s up.

    Yep.

It’s behaving strangely, but not really. On the phone, I SSH-ed in and looked at the error logs and it’s having trouble finding files that are there, like image files. The reason is they’re hard-coded URLs and if the propagation isn’t finished, it goes out to look for the image, tries to get back in and can’t. I’ve never seen a blank page come up before when accessing a php file. It usually either displays it, or errors. No in-between, and any missing images are just blanks or boxes.

I’m convinced that it’s just a matter of waiting a little longer thumbsup.gif

Still blank – I’ll give it a go again from work in the am…

Sure looking fast though – pings are coming in at about 75ms/45
