I am interested in knowing how many diecast collectors there are on the forum. Specifically, I would interested in knowing what you collect, in what scale, and why you collect what you collect.
I will start out by posting that I buy only 1:18 scale (don’t ask me why – because they are bigger than 1:24?). I started out collecting Ford Mustangs, Shelby, and Woody’s. I now find myself buying vintage ford stuff (sunliners, galaxies, victorias) and Mercury as well as Oldsmobile and Plymouth. I have seen so many cars this year at car shows that I can never afford to buy, but I can buy a few of them in diecast.
There are many different makers and manufacturers out there that I would like to ask about quality. Who make the best diecast? Lane, Auto Art, Danbury Mint, others? How would you rate them, quality wise, from top to bottom. And, I will tell you, I am perfectly OK with Ertl American Muscle series diecast.

I AM IN THE PROCESS OF PURCHASING MIRRORED GLASS (WINTER PROJECT WHEN ITS TOO COLD TO GO OUT THE GARAGE AND WORK ON THE CAR), TO LINE BOOK SHELVES WITH. RIGHT NOW I HAVE A TOTAL OF ONLY SIX DIECAST MODELS, BUT I AM WORKING ON EXPANDING (DOUBLING) THAT NUMBER.

Yeah its a fair sized collection, he’s been working on it for awhile.
That sounds like a fun winter project, a nice way to keep in touch with cars during the long cold winter months!
I’m more into the 1/64 size. Mostly collect 70-72 Monte Carlo stuff now because I have 2 real cars and I have liked 70-72 Montes since they were new. I did get a 1/18 Monte Carlo SS from American Muscle this year. I also have some 1/24 from Saico. My 1/64 are from Revell, Dub City, Hot Wheels, Johnny Lightning, etc. I also have 1/24 plastic models and dealer promos. I will buy something if it catches my eye, but now it’s mostly Monte stuff. Don’t know how many I have, dontknow.gif it would take too long to find and count them all. 😯

Do you have a preference in regards to quality?
I have several Lane 1:18 diecast Mustang GT350’s which are excellent quality. I recently purchased a HighWay 61 1:18 diecast Mach 1 which is just as good or maybe even better than Lane. But my others (1:18) are ertl American Muscle and they are good also.
Actually, my favorite set of diecast are GearBox 1:18 diecast gas pumps with glass globes, which I like just as well or maybe even better than some of the cars. These gas pumps are top notch quality for not alot of money.

The one model that I’ve never been able to find (please tell me if you know) is a 1956 Ford Thunderbird in the Peacock Blue Color:
I’ve never bought any online. I like to see what I buy in person. I get mine at various general and hobby stores or swap meets. Jefferson has many venders selling die cast and plastic. Iola has the toy barn, which has all kinds of toys. I also go to toy shows in Milwaukee.
I collect hotwheels, matchbox and whatever diecast cars/trucks/vans u name it catches my eye, I even have a few die cast limos
There is a hobby store located inside WestGate Mall and they have a small selection of diecast models, both 1:24 scale and 1:18.
Most of the diecast I have in my collection, I have purchased using ebay. Believe it or not, the one I am most interested in right now is a 1:18 Ertl American Graffiti ’32 Deuce Coupe, the John Milner car. These cars routinely are bringing $55 and up on eBay. I searched high and low at Jefferson at the fall show and most vendors told me that this is their all time best seller. All diecast vendors at Jefferson in the fall show were sold out. I just can’t bring myself to pay this kind of money for this diecast.
Actually, I have had good success on ebay with diecast purchases, but you have to be careful about what individual sellers will charge for shipping and mailing. If a seller wants $15 or $20 to ship a diecast via parcel post and you only saved $10 on the purchase price, then it isn’t much of a bargain.

Really, Ebay huh? Maybe I’ll have to give that a shot. I’m still looking for that ’56 tbird blue model, can’t find one!
I don’t know that I have ever seen one in that color – but if they do exist – ebay will be the place where you will find it. You might not like the price you would end up paying for a final bid, but, I am constantly amazed, and have been for years, about what turns up for bid on ebay.

It seems like you can find almost anything on there.. even things like houses and helicopters! 😯
