Yes this is getting old fast. One of the moderators will take care of these guys for you though or I will, please just ignore it for now until we get enough IPs banned to fix it permanently

I suppose you feel like this BangHead.gif because you have to deal with them, but it just makes me Drogar-Laugh(LBG).gif Almost a JOKE OF THE DAY thing. Reminds me of a running joke from Laugh-in “Very interesting, but stupid!”

Yep, we’ve had several spam postings and I’m just making a statement about it here. We try to clean it up as quickly as possible, thanks to Bodyslide for the alerts on this issue

    Spma, spam, spam…. w00t.gif

You’ll pull your hair out Garibaldi trying to ban IP’s….

If you haven’t already first make sure you have the visual confirmation on for new registants, that should prevent a lot of bots from registering. Second try this mod:

    http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=186683&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

It removes the website field from the registration form. It will become active in a users profile after 10 days or whatever you want… Most of the spam registrants are bots. They don’t even load the registration page but just submit the information… Since there is no website field viewable on your registration form a human wouldn’t submit it, the bot will. Instant IP ban for anyone submitting a registration with a website.

    Try this thread too: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=1404100

The above is pretty simple to implement and would be completely invisible to users. It adds a custom hidden input variable to your registration page. For example you have the text inputs like website, username etc. This just adds a custom one. As I entioned the bots don’t even load the registration page, they simply submit the info, since there submission won’t contain the custom hidden variable they get rejected.

    Afew other things to do:

    1. Change the phpbb copyright text slightly so it won’t be searchable. You’ll see on videohelp that it’s p_h_p_b_b, that or something else.

    2. Change the “i am exactly 13 or over the age of 13” link text to something else. I was getting a lot of searches for the above.
