Has anyone coated their garage floors? If so how difficult was it? What would you recommend?

Anyone else have any experience in coating your garage floor. As far as epoxy how hard is it too apply, how long do you have to let it dry, etc?

I’m planning on doing this soon using a product that Menards sells. But first I’ll use a product to clean up the oil and other stains.

What’s the name of the product? Is it fairly easy to apply?

I use kerosene and a stiff bristle pushbroom. It works great!

Let the kero set for a few minutes, then scrub with the broom.

I learned that from watching gas station operators
    a long time ago.

I won’t put any floor coatings on my garage floor. Too many ways
for it to get damaged. Gas, oil, chemicals, rolling the floor jack around, etc.

Good tip Spanky, thanks! An alternate version of your procedure could be:
    1. Let the kero set for a few minutes,
    2. Light match and throw

That would get the floor clean! w00t.gif

    No, don’t use a match!

Kero is a LOT safer than gas. After I clean the floor it looks perfect.
No need for any paint or coatings.

Also, I keep a lot of sawdust handy to soak up oil spills when they happen.

Sawdust is great for that, and its recycling so its a very good use for it.

There are definitely advantages and diadvantages to putting an epoxy cover on the floor. I wonder just how resiliant it is with spills of oil and gas.

The epoxy will stand up great to the chemicals but once the epoxy
is scratched down to the concrete it’s useless.

Using a floor jack, etc will probably mess up the epoxy coating.

Sealing the concrete might be an alternative.

I was talking with someone at the Deerfield car show who coated his garage floor with the Menard product. He said it worked great. A friend of his used a product costing about 6 times more, and his results have not been nearly as good as the Menard product.

Does anyone have the floor tiles in their garage, and how do they like it?

Big Block recently installed garage tile in his garage and really likes it. Has anyone else gone this route or taken a look into garage tile?

I coated my floor last year…but only in 2/3rds of the shop since I did it late in the fall and I only have heat in one section.

It’s held up great…I dragged a Hemi block across it and did scratch it but it touches up nicely and nothing else has damaged it.

I have a working shop where I do repairs and fabrications…lots of cutting, grinding, etc.

Any pictures of your shop krooser or stories about your projects? It sounds like the coat is quite durable.

Here are some pictures from Big Block’s garage, he recently installed tile from Raceway Tile.
