Did the mid 80’s corvette win best of show AGAIN? I refuse to go to that show after two years in a row the SAME corvette won best of show, icon_scratch.gif There was also a car in my class that was rusty and had the engine painted with a spray can that won. I don’t mind not getting a trophy BUT when my daily driver is nicer than the car that beat me? dontknow.gif Sorry I have better things to do!

I dont remember what won best of show, but I know it wasnt a corvette. I will agree that the judging was a bit questionable in some of the classes (a lot of Pontiacs winning…at a Pontiac dealership). But that is to be expected at a dealership show…its inevitable.

I heard they brought an outside Judge that had no relationship with the Club.

Thanks for the photos Ryan! I was planning on stopping by this show too but I had too much work to do today and ended up having to skip it.

    Iwas there, too.

Yes, the judge was brought in from Wisconsin Dells/Baraboo area, and is a car guy himself. He has no affiliation with Don Miller or God’s Country GTO club. I have seen him judging at other shows, maybe Pardeeville? in years past.

There were some “Best Of” awards this year. Overall, Best Of Show, was John and Mickey Christianson’s 1969 Mustang Mach 1. One of the other “Best Of” awards was the other Mach 1, which was judged Best Of Show, Ford. Congrats to John and Mickey!

I would agree that alot of the awards went to Pontiac GTO’s, but quite frankly, were were alot of very nice Pontiac GTO’s at this show, especially the one from the Milwaukee area that hasn’t been shown in years.

Good door prizes, food was available (Brat N Brau), weather was nice, so overall, I thought it was a good show.

I did not make it to this show. There was one here in Reedsburg. Less then 1 mile from my place. The people that hand out fliers for this show never leave one in my car so I figure they do not want me to attend. I get alot of that. Bias against K cars and there sister cars. That’s ok. dontknow.gif

    Jeremy,

Get your Corvette’s straight – the two year best of show winner was a ’92 Drogar-Laugh(LBG).gif I see that car around quite a bit, there’s no reason whatsoever for that car to win Best of Show anywhere.

I also do not attend this show anymore for the same reason above and for many other reasons, one of which was mentioned in another post. It does seem that even though this is an all-makes show, a hell of a lot of Pontiacs always win.

Just so you all know, the guy with the Corvette is in the hospital quite sick. I’m sure any positive thoughts in his direction would be greatly appreciated.

We meant to go, but had issues and didn’t make it. Glad to hear it went well.

Anymore, this show is kind of like a homecoming show. I have seen many of the people and cars that I have seen throughout the summer, and everyone seems to come together at this show.

I had a chance to visit with Eclipse Tuner, Amigo2K, GTOMan, Big Block, Chuck Richardson (an employee of Don Miller), Tom Richards, Al Peck, Earl Dalbe, and the list just goes on. This show always reminds me that the show season will come to an end soon and it will be awhile before we can do it again.

I was one of those that were confused about the judging. There was a 2007 HHR that placed over a -MINT- 2001 Viper. The Viper was, by far, the CLEANEST car in the class and it didn’t even place! dontknow.gif I then somehow managed to win “Best of Show – Pontiac” with my ’00 Firehawk but failed to place within my class. By me not even placing in my class and then winning “Best of Show – Pontiac” tells me that there was not one single Pontiac in the show that scored higher than that 2007 HHR….which beat out both me and the 2001 Viper in the class. I have a hard time believing that with all the nice Pontiacs that were there. O well, just didn’t seem to make much sense to me.

    Paul,
I dont know if you go to a lot of shows or not, so bare with me on this one….I beleive the show was a “one trophey per car” rule, which would explain why you one for best of, and not in your class. As for judging in general, its not always how clean the car is (although that is a big factor), depending on the category, the judge also takes into account the quality of the installs, mods, custom painting, etc. Just because its a marquee car doesnt necessarily mean its a show winner…take this scenario as an example: Lets say there is a class called Mustangs stock, all years…and there is a 2008 Foose Mustang and a fully numbers matching 1968 Mustang Fastback that was fully restored…The 1968 gets the win because there was work involved, whereas the 2008 is fresh from the show room.

Now, Im by no means trying to defend the judging this past weekend, cuz there were a lot of questionable issues. Im just offering my perspective on judging in general.

    Good answer,

People who drive them new cars to a show should just get a slap on the back and a thanks for bringing your car…. The people who actually wrench on there cars deserve the awards…
