    Trim tag reads, First line: 07B F Second line: ST 65-1667 E U C 6940 BODY Third line: TR 862- S3 PAINT Forth line: W 2MS Fifth line: 5W

This Trim tag is on a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible. This car is supposed to be a factory Super Sport and not a clone. I would hope that the trim tag will tell me the original factory color, trim level, and original factory motor.

Thanks for the help GTO Man.

The basic information is matching up, but some of the other data is “jumbled up” and starting to get me confused. I have not confirmed that this car was/is a factory SS. I also think that the factory colors (interior and exterior) have been changed.

Even though this is a project car, there appears to be originality issues with this car.

    Marshall,

I have old GM parts books here at work that decode all or most of that information. PM me if you would like to come out and flip thru them, or we can make arragements for me to get you photocopies of certain pages. I keep them on hand for all the GM cars, you would be suprised how many people call for muscle car parts!

Thank You, I will certainly keep this in mind.

This car is not holding up very well to closer scrutiny. I am concerned about the interior and exterior color changes from original, and the addition of the Super Sport package to a regular Impala causes me some concern.

Marshall, any update on what you found?

Yeah, the car is a real rats nest. The seller is trying to pass the car off as a factory SS car, when in fact, it is a SS clone Impala. The color (both interior and exterior) has been changed by a previous owner from a butternut (beige) car with fawn (off white) interior to a red car with black interior and top. It would take a ton of money to make this car a nice driver or occasional show car.

The GM decoding info that you provided was a big help.

It is too bad that so many cars being sold are misrepresented as something they aren’t.
