So, how long have you been attending car shows? Personally I was off and on for awhile, a show here and there like Klassarama, but I really started attending regularly in 2004. I think its a great way to relax on the weekend and get together with friends (not to mention the CARS 😯 ) and its also a cool way to get to know the state and all the small towns! icon_punk.gif

I have been going to car shows for about 10 years. With so many shows each year you can keep going and not go to the same one twice.

30+ years. drool.gif I remember going to Iola when you could walk the grounds and look at the cars in under 3 hours. w00t.gif Spectater parking started by the toy barn area. Not many shows to go to back then, but cruising Wisconsin Ave. in Milwaukee on a Saturday night was as good as a show. thumbsup.gif

20+ years! I also remember shows when they were much smaller and cruising East Washington Ave. every Friday and Saturday night. Those were the days! I also remember Street Machine Nationals coming to Madison, now we can’t get any event here! :(

The biggest were Wally Rank’s show at his dealership and the Rod and Custom show at State Fair park. Foster Pontiac and Renner Oldsmobile put on shows for many years. Zweifel Ford used to have a good Ford show many years ago.

At these shows what were the majority of cars? Did you see any 70s classics, or just earlier stuff (30s-50s)?

I went to Wally’s shows from the 70’s until it ended in the late 80’s, I think. Might have been very early 90’s. It was a local version of Iola. Packard, Deusenberg, Cord, Auburn, Tucker, etc. Lots of rare cars and true Classics. The Early Ford V8 club had an area. The local Chevy club had an area. Near the end, some 70’s cars started showing up. The Rod and Custom show had touring show cars, vans, bikes, depending on what was popular at the time. Some local cars made it into the show and they changed as the years went by. The Olds and Pontiac shows changed from 30’s-50’s then to mostly 60’s-70’s now.

What was it like seeing the Tucker? I hear that the museum in Hartford has one there on display this winter, I’m going to try and get down there to check it out! icon_punk.gif

Interesting car. Worth seeing in real life. If Preston Tucker could have gotten the company to produce cars for years, who knows what would have happened. If the one on display is green, it was owned by a Wisconsin car collector who died a few years ago.

Not only is it amazing what innovations Preston Tucker had 70 years ago.. its also amazing how so many of them have been reproduced with no credit to him!

What else did this Wisconsin car collector have in his collection?

I met him through the local Kaiser-Frazer club. I know he had a Darrin, but I never got details on his collection.
