An idiot at my car wash forgot to put their big roller up, as
their rules require for SUVs, and the roller lifted my ’90 GW’s
wipers up, and snapped/bent them (internally) out of position, such
that they only clean a smaller portion of the windshield then they
did before, even at high speed. This happened once before, and the
only thing that fixed it was a heavy snowfall that stayed on the car
for a week-afterwards, the wipers went back to their full cleaning
position. I tried to recreate this by trying to bend them by hand, or
leave one tucked under the other overnight, but it didn’t work.

This problem cannot be fixed by clicking the wipers to a different
position in their holders, if I remember correctly. Any ideas?
I do have a used replacement gear, or whatever it is called, but
replacing the mechanism is a huge job, I believe, and there is no
guarantee that the used part is not also out of whack. Let me note
here that I use larger than standard wipers, which have always worked
    very well for me.
