“Hopefully they will not continue this behavior,” Lengfeld said, “because we’re definitely on top of them.”

Oh really, when are the Police in this city going to get tough? Is it going to take someone getting killed in a random shooting. I think their priorities are out of focus. Why not patrol the neighborhoods in question.

They will get tough once one of the tree-hugging, brick-throwing hippies in charge of that city will learn that holding hands and singing Kumbaya will not make the world a better place.

They will only act when arresting criminals results in revenue. We have all heard that crime doesn’t pay? Well stopping crime doesn’t pay either. Our police have a hard job to do, that job isn’t upholding the law, it is being pulled in a million directions trying to collect money in a fashion dictated by the legislature. Let’s face it most traffic laws are not about safety, they are about revenue. If we took all of the money spent on State Highway Patrol and directed it towards fighting real criminals (drug dealers, thieves, general thugs) we could probably really make the world safer. But where will the funds to do this come from? The money comes from traffic tickets. It’s a catch 22. The police have to raise money by enforcing the laws that bring in revenue to fund the enforcing of the laws that endanger our safety, but they don’t have the resources to do both, more police means more needed revenue, so the revenue takes a precedence.

At least that is how I see it.

Because that will be called profiling and someone will get sued.

Speaking of involuntary donations, I was the recipient of a speeding ticket from the Wisconsin State Patrol yesterday.

I was on my way to the Grant County courthouse in Lancaster, and was clocked doing 66 in a 55, coming into Fennimore. Believe it or not, I was driving an “arrest me” red Chevy Impala! I would have sworn the speed limit from Dodgeville West on Highway 18 was 65, not 55, but I definitely was wrong about that.

This is so unusual, because I am the biggest “slow poke” driver you could ever meet. My kids even make fun of me for driving so slow.

No, it was not this one. I am still on the hunt for a vintage red impala convertible, preferably a 1965 or 1966,

I don’t normally use a “fleet” vehicle from DOT, but I did need to drive one on Wednesday and DOT gave me a new E85 Flex Fuel Red Impala to drive for the day. I am convinced that there is something to the psychology of color. The color red does seem to attract attention, especially from law enforcement.

I will tell you that this new Impala that I drive was a very, very nice car! If I were shopping for a new car, I would certainly consider the Chevrolet Impala.

    I love my 06′.

If you where on 18/151 there are just a few stretches there that go from 65 to 55 and back and forth. Speed trap central from what I have been told.

Yep, I learned that lesson the hard way. Coming into Fennimore the trooper had me clocked and locked in and was on me before I knew what was going on.

Sucks. Was it the 2wd Tahoe undercover rig? I was told by a Captain of the Dane County Sheriff’s that the State Patrol have a few of those in the running gun on the Interstate systems.

I have seen them, and Charger R/T’s with the R/T striping, and even a Ford F150 pickup that was gray with a topper.
