Personally, I think Nascar has lost many of it’s long time fans with more to come. I hate, hate, HATE the COT and hope they make some changes soon. I want to see racing, not follow the leader for 3-4 hours. We used to watch many of the races, even attended a few and now we tune in for the last 30 minutes or so to see who’s in/out and the eventual winner. Watching Jimmie Johnson win the last four races has been good for his team/owner but very boring for the fans. I think the open wheel drivers provide a wider range of experience, but also remember many of the current Cup drivers started out in open wheel and many still race open wheel when they get a chance.
I can’t imagine the money is that much better than what they were earning before, but they may bring much needed sponsorship with them. Time will tell!
