This is from the cars-on-line.com weekly newsletter:
At the end of last year there was a little give and take between Chevrolet Camaros and Pontiac GTOs as to which one was most popular among muscle car buyers. But in 2012 we have witnessed the GTO pulling away into a solid lead as the favorite car among internet buyers (Check out our Pontiac GTO Section). We analyze statistics pulled from the Google and Bing search engines to spot consumer trends on the internet. In the past month almost 21 percent of all buyers looking to purchase a muscle car were looking for a Pontiac GTO. About 17.6 percent were looking for classic Camaros taking the second place spot from Corvettes, who now have 13.2 percent. Below you can see our recent statistics on the Top Ten Classics Cars and the Top Ten Muscle Cars. The chart shows the percentage of buyers who were specifically searching for cars by make among classic cars and by model among muscle cars.
Ford remains the top classic car make among internet buyers. Ford, who is actually down 8.1 percent from last month’s statistics, leads by a wide margin over Packard as the top collector car. When we drill down further into Ford buyer preferences we noticed that the most popular Ford is still currently the Model A.
For the second month in a row we are seeing International pickup trucks showing up on our Top Ten Classic Car list. In the list above, about 2 percent of all collector car buyers were looking for vehicles made by International Harvestor. This number is up about .4 percent from last month’s statistics. We have some new players this month making their way up to the Top Ten such as Chrysler and Edsel. We will be interested in seeing next month’s results to see if they keep climbing.
