I can’t recall if this has been posted or not, so if it has, forgive me for repeating.
Tonight is the QSL Summer Car Show, from 5PM until 10PM, in Middleton. Celebrity judging will be at 7PM, with awards in seven classes at 8PM. Admission is $25, with proceeds going to Gilda’s Club in Madison.

Not for me. No class for my car. And $25, even if it is for charity, is just too steep for a local cruise night spot. I would consider $15, but not $25

We’re on vacation now and thought about heading out that way since it’s almost impossible when working. The skies are quite dark though and I don’t feel like paying $25 on top of the meal we’d more than likely eat. Nice idea though, I saw on the news last night they raised at least $20k for the Extreme Makeover family.

So I drove out (in my daily driver) to see what was going on tonight. Anyone and everyone could drive their car in. If you wanted to be judged it was 25 bucks. They were also taking donation. There were about 70 cars there at 7PM. Benchmark had a couple of nice cars there and so did PorkerVille IronWorks. They had Trophies for the “show” and a plaque for QSL pick and a plaque from the Good Guys.
There were some rare cars there too. A real cobra (not a kit car), a 1938 Packard, an Orange and Sliver new Challenger, A 2006 Mustang convertible built by the Ring Brothers, a new 500GT Mustang and even a Ford GT.
Here is my 2 cents on how to maybe make this work better for the charity. No fee for the folks driving in. 10% of the money generated during that day (from open to close) goes to the charity; meaning every dollar that goes into the til 10% at the end of the day goes to the charity. Culvers does this many times throughout the year. Also, have the standard jar for extra donations. Then have 1 plaque and just let someone from the charity pick a winner.
This method means everyone is helping the charity.

I was also out there early from about 5:30 to 6:30 (wihout the car). I thought that the turnout was on the light side. My reasoning is that the $25 “donation” to Gilda’s Club/Madison prevented some cars from coming out. (Of Course, if you own a Viper and a 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, you can ante up the $25 without breaking the bank). icon_cheesygrin.gif
Who was the Best of Show winner? Does anyone know? Who was the celebrity judge? I am guessing that it was Barry Alvarez???
I did not have enough notice of this show to get my car ready. Had I of known earlier, I would have left work early, gone home and knocked the dust off of my car, and driven it to Middleton. Oh well, there’s always next year. I applaud the QSL and Benchmark Classics for their work on behalf of Gilda’s Club Madison. I would only suggest that for next year that they advertise this event earlier.

Thanks for the pics, looked like a great night! I also agree on the suggestions already made. Culver’s is very good about donating back to the community and does it multiple times throughout the year. QSL should’ve/could’ve done the same today.
I’m seeing more and more of those Challengers, we had a silver one at Culver’s on Tuesday ~ very cool! thumbsup.gif

Oh well, other nights coming up. Looks like some nice rides missed though, thanks for the pics. My brother will love the Cobra one.
The Cobra is Dana Bowers’. He brought it out to the Lube when I did the Sunday cruises once. Nice car. The Ring Brothers’ Mustang is the person that used to own “Kona”, a ’67 Mustang built by Ring Brothers that was in Hot Rod Magazine twice and on the cover of Summit. The Packard looks great.
I agree that this wasn’t advertised well enough and the $25 is way to high for a local cruise night event. It is for charity but you don’t have to squeeze the money out of people. $10 would have had probably double the turnout. At $25 you price too many people out, especially when many are going to be spending more money on food and drink. I went thru this before at QSL when I did a charity show for Camp Wikidas. Management wanted to raise my entrance fee to make more money. I had to fight to keep it low, and in the end had over 110 cars , and I was on the same day as Verona.
They are gradually learning what all I did there. They are trying and I applaud their efforts.
I went from about 7:45PM to after 8 and there were about 80-90 cars I would say. It also appeared that some were leaving when I was driving in and more kept coming so I’d say they broke 100 overall for unique cars throughout the night.
I was very impressed with the 38 Packard and original Cobra, very nice cars! I took some pics and will have them up soon.
