Overall Rating:put overall rating here ??? This show will need some “tweaking” next year. They planned on 100 cars, but 190 cars showed up, so in that regard, it was a great show. Car owners were allowed to select their own classes from the choices available, which made things very confusing. Needless to say, the “special interest” and “stock” classes had some cars which didn’t belong there. The stock classes contained some cars that were heavily modified. I don’t know how non-car people (chamber of commerce people) can correct this for next year.
My biggest complaint was the misleading car show flyer. They adveristed three awards in each class, but only handed out two awards in each class. What gives with this? There were a couple awards unclaimed at the end of the show, and they shifted them to the motorcycle class which only had three motorcycles entered. The 1960 to 1969 stock class must of had 25 to 35 cars entered, and they only handed out two awards in this class. In all likelihood, I will not go back to this show next year. The 1960 to 1969 stock class needs to be broken up, the chamber of commerce needs to hand out a few more awards in the larger classes, and they need someone to look at the vehicles in each class to see that they are in the correct class. Here’s one extreme example. There was an older black, Cadillac hearse that was airbrushed with skulls and halloween scenes competing in a stock class. This vehicle won an award in that stock class. Jokingly, someone pointed out to me that maybe the airbrushed skulls and skeletons were a “special order” option. My reply – Yeah, Right.
Anyway, This show has the potential to be a great show, with some changes made for next year.October 7, 2007 at 2:04 pm #30802circletrackParticipantMarshall ~ I was out of town yesterday so obviously didn’t get to the show. I’m surprised on your comments as I attended last year and don’t remember any of that happening. I do agree the stock class in most shows from 60-69 tends to be one of the biggest classes and always needs some “tweaking” to ensure everyone is in the correct class.
I would’ve been very insulted to have that hearse in the same class as I was, and it the promoters should’ve made changes, that’s a no brainer. Sorry it didn’t go well for you, at least the weather was perfect! Did anyone from this area win awards?

Food – B+ Good variety
Entertainment – C Cheap sounding system
Judging – N/A participant
Dash Plaque – B Magnet

October 7, 2007 at 9:55 pm #30804AnonymousInactiveWell, let me see if I can remember.
Chuck Richardson (Pontiac Bonneville convertible) won a Class Award. John Christiansen won a Class Award in the Mustang class. The guy with the Nash-T also won a Class Award, as did Harlan with one of his trucks. I don’t recall anyone else from this area winning at Mayville.
For what it’s worth, I did send an email to the Mayville Chamber pointing out some of these issues that could be tweaked for next years show.
Who knows, maybe they will fix these issues and have an even better show next year.October 7, 2007 at 11:43 pm #30805Eclipse_TunerParticipantTo be honest, I’ll have to disagree with MMRJR, I was glad that they separated the import and domestic late models from the other categories, and the truck classes seemed pretty good.
If anything, I would say that the 50s-70s classes should be broken up better because it was so huge per class. Maybe breaking it up by Mopar, Chevrolet, and Ford.
I’m curious as to why a few late model mustangs were in the domestic late model class rather than the all mustang class.
I do agree that the way cars were put into classes was a bit awkward.Overall it was a pleasant show, in a nice location (even though shade would be nice…but who would have thought we would have a 90 deg. day in October).
My big complaint was what won in some of the classes. It stems from my pet peeve of participant ballot. It usually turns into a popularity contest that rarely acknowledges the really quality vehicles. The hearse that won in its class, and the S10 that won best of show come to mind as evidance of poor quality paint jobs or poorly planned builds (Not to dis those vehicles, but just stating in terms of comparison to what else was at the show). To me, the black and red BelAir was the hands-down best of show ride there.
I’ll probably attend next year as it is in a nice area and is close to home.
October 8, 2007 at 2:44 am #30806circletrackParticipantIt’s always good to hear other opinions also. You are correct about participant voting, sometimes it does turn into a popularity contest and the winners may not always be deserving. Some shows have gone away from participant voting for just that reason. I also feel if you have a Mustang and there is a class for them, you should be in that class ~ not the class you think you have the best chance winning in… On that note, why is there a Mustang class at most shows? By now surely there should be a Chevelle, Camaro, Nova, etc. class, correct?
What year Bel Air? I saw a red/black 56 at Jefferson last weekend that was amazing!
October 8, 2007 at 4:03 am #30807Eclipse_TunerParticipantcircletrack, that was the car that was at Jefferson. It was probably the best restomod that I have seen…with every seam sealed and blended.
I agree, the 60s and 70s cars are so popular now that it could be broken down by make, or even by model at larger shows. Larger import/tuner shows are picking up on that pretty quick, where the classes are done by manufacturer, and even those sometimes get subcategories.
October 8, 2007 at 12:59 pm #30808AnonymousInactiveIt’s OK to disagree! Thats the beauty of an open forum such as this.
I agree that there were some vehicles that were not in the right class, or no where near the right class. I noticed this occurence with several Mustangs also, and I was perplexed as to why they were not in the Mustang class.
I also agree with the Best of Show award. IMHO, the Red/Black BelAir was my pick for best of show. The Best of Show winner also won a Class Award, so he went home with two of the few awards that were handed out.Marshall
October 8, 2007 at 10:26 pm #30809circletrackParticipantSee, that’s another issue ~ Best of Show should receive that award and that award only if he/she is entitled to it. I also think you should only win one award at shows no matter if it’s Best Paint, Engine, Interior, etc. There are enough cars at shows now that the same person shouldn’t go home with 2-3 awards per car, as we’ve seen this summer.
October 9, 2007 at 4:12 am #30810Eclipse_TunerParticipantI was at a show in Milwaukee (all tuner show), and one car won 6 or 7 trophies (every best award, and best of its class) and no one else won anything.
One car, one trophy…keeps it simple.

I would’ve said something in this situation, this is another example how car shows fail when things like this happen. How did the person winning feel? I would’ve been embarassed!
October 10, 2007 at 10:18 pm #30812moparkid25ParticipantI wonder if that Caddy Hearse y’all are talking about is the one I saw in Reedsburg this past July, I made my comments about it that thread.
If so, it’s the same one with the casket with the (fake) dead body in it drool.gif
October 11, 2007 at 1:01 am #30813AnonymousInactiveUpdate on my email to the Mayville Chamber of Commerce.
I did receive a short reply from someone with the Mayville Chamber who advised that my email and comments/concerns and observations had been forwarded to the car show organizers???????
If I receive anything further in the way of an explanations or plans for changes in next years show, I will post them also.
October 11, 2007 at 4:18 am #30814GaribaldiKeymasterThanks for keeping us up-to-date on this Marshall, it will be interesting to see if you hear back from them and what their plans are for next year.
Welcome to the forum Eclipse Tuner!!! icon_punk.gif blob1.gif icon_headbang.gif Good to have you here!
Quote:To me, the black and red BelAir was the hands-down best of show ride there. If this is the same one that I’ve seen a couple times before at shows then as I remember it was a very beautiful car! Its an extra bonus to stand out as a tri-five chevy since there are so many of them – they have to do something really unique for it to catch your eye
