    All,

First, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

As a new classic car owner, I have a few more questions that I keep thinking of.

The 1970 Wildcat has some slight body imperfections that over time will be taken care of. There is one issue that may need addressing sooner and not later. On the TOP of the left side of the rear bumper, there is a patch of rust where the chrome plating is coming off.

I have no idea how much something like this will cost to re-plate. The question for you folks is whether or not any of you have re-plated your bumpers or not? If you did, how much money am I likely to invest in getting this done?

Is there a place in Madison that does this? So, just checking in to see how I would go about repairing the rust spot. It is the size of a nickel or less in total area, but it is noticeable.

    Thanks all…

    Mick

I’m not sure you can spot repair a rust spot. Typically it is cheaper to buy a repopped bumper, if they are made (but many times fitment is an issue).

So the only way to really fix it is to send it off to be stripped down and rechromed.

Cost 600-1500 plus shipping. The more you pay the better the quality (1500 is for a show car better then new finish)

The best you will find… their prices are competitive and the quality is excellent.

Forget Bumper Boyz in California. they will switch bumpers with yours, have really crappy chrome and poor service. Lots of unhappy customers.

I know somebody who knows somebody. My buddy used an outfit around Wisconsin Rapids? last year to do both front and back and was extremely pleased. If you need the info on this second Wisconsin shop, send me a PM.
