I’m not exactly sure how the license system works for drivers in the US but I know that in Canada, it’s a three step process. I myself am sort of scared to start driving because there are so many bad drivers out there. People are so careless especially when they’re in a hurry. My dad has been in 3 accidents now; two weren’t his fault and the third wasn’t either but he took the blame because it was an elderly lady. Anyway my point is road rage is a major problem. I’m not entirely sure but I believe that in places in Europe (especially Germany because of the Autobahn) they have very strict rules for licensing. Does anyone think that we need an improved system such as theirs to decrease accidents? I sort of do but you could also argue that people will drive perfectly, or well enough to get their license and then drive how they want anyway. Sorry if anyone has already said anything about this but I’ve seen it discussed elsewhere and wanted some opinions..but too lazy to search it.

In the US they will give a license to anyone who can pass a simple test, written and driving. I think they need to be more restrictive as to who gets a license. There are way too many idiots on the road. Number one, illegal aliens should not have a drivers license. They should be shipped back to where they came from, no questions asked. Second they should retest drivers every so many years, especially when they are over certain ages. Driving is a privledge not a right. Too many people are killed needlessly by morons.

    I agree with GTO Man.

I would add that part of the problem is our population explosion, which is making our roads more crowded by the day.

I also agree with GTO Man. Besides our strict intoxication and driving laws we also need to make sure drivers are prepared to handle normal traffic situations that occur under normal conditions. And I also do not think illegal aliens should be allowed drivers licenses, they shouldn’t be here in the first place and so there is no reason for them to be able to legally drive around

It’s way over my head how anyone illegally living there can legally get a license…

Well they also get many other nice benefits like free health care … it makes no sense at all does it? icon_scratch.gif

Alot of the fault lies with our elected officials in regards to the illegal alien problem.

That’s true it happens a lot here too with a lot of immigrants though I’m not sure if they’re illegal or not..I thought we had strict laws against that but apparently not.

I vaguely heard talk about the Bush Administration wants to put illegal aliens already in the country in charge of border security! w00t.gif

I’m sure I’ve asked this before, but I’ll do so again because I still don’t believe it. In the USA, can you pass your driving test in an automatic, and then later on hop into and drive a manual?

In the UK, if you pass in an automatic you are issued with a UK Automatic driving licence. You are then restricted to driving only automatics. I have a full UK licence, meaning that I passed in a manual (a four-gear Vauxhall Nova, no less!) and I can drive anything I want.

Didn’t stop me jumping into an automatic once and not being able to put it into drive… Then I drove it a about a mile with the handbrake on!
