Nice find and nice pics. I don’t know about the “year cut off” sign. That would eliminate many of us.

Yup, couldn’t drive the E21 there.

Looks like a club put the event on, I’ll be their by-laws have a certain year cutoff or something.

But I like the article. Thank god for cruise nights, at least a few hours where this messed up world doesn’t matter.

Yeah the heart of the article is in the right place if some of the specifics like year cutoffs are not

None of us, (with the exception of circletrack) host, sponsor or put on an annual show, but this issue of year cutoff, may come into play, sooner rather than later. I am thinking about the new Camaro’s, the new Dodge Challenger’s, the Dodge Chargers, and of course, many different versions of the new Mustangs. What class do these cars “show” in? Tentatively, I am guessing that a Modern Muscle class will be needed and used at many shows in the coming months.

Marshall ~ funny you bring that up… After much discussion on what to do with those “newer” cars and to avoid putting them in “special interest”, which they clearly are not, we have a Modern Muscle class at the Road Apples Car Show in June and will be enforcing that class. I’ve seen too many newer Mustangs and such go into that class and beat out some very deserving vehicles that should’ve won hands down. I have no problem with newer cars at shows, put them in the correct class.

I’m sure we’ll see a new Camaro or two at shows soon!

We also decided to try and not discriminate against any of the newer cars, as the owners are more than likely the future of muscle cars and car shows, and you need to keep them interested and involved. I understand the cut off at show events, otherwise it gets too big and not enough room for everyone. Also take into consideration a “collector” car is now something made in 1989! :S

    Circletrack,

Thanks for making a wise and prudent decision! You, and the Road Apples, certainly stepped up to the plate and hit a home run on this issue. There is no better way for a new car like the Camaro, Challenger, Charger, or Mustang to compete at the shows than in a Modern Muscle Class! It just occurred to me that there will be many more “modern muscle” cars as this year unfolds.

I think this idea of a “Modern Muscle” class makes a lot of sense. It allows these cars to be included in the hobby while at the same time recognizing the differences in restoration, care, etc that go into cars that are 40+ years old verses cars that are less than a year old

Great idea. The classes that cover many decades are ridiculous. A car in the 60’s or 70’s should not be judged against one in the 80’s and later.

Here in Milwaukee, the cut off rule applies at many cruise nights. Solid gold and Pistol Pete’s to name two are huge in the amount of cars they get, so they are employing a year cut off rule. I personally don’t care for it and have changed the rule at my own cruise night. Someone pays me to DJ, but since my GF and I take care of registration, door prizes and all that, I started letting in newer stuff like the Mustangs, Challengers and such things. In these times with some cruise nights struggling to stay afloat, this year of manufacture bias can kill a show in some areas.

Not to mention that you are telling some potential customers “we don’t want you”..which is never a good business move

It is a problem when there isn’t enough room for all the vehicles. I have a feeling QSL may have that issue on Thursday with Hot Rod Power Tour in town. Instead of limiting it should be a first come first serve situation.

I’m expecting Friday evening to be really packed with the VFW benefit there.

Which is why I am going in early both nights.
