I am sure you have all experienced it lately, people are becoming more and more rude. What ever happened to the golden rule of do onto others?

You have all read about my experience with a few indivuals on the pre-Good Guys night at the Lube. How a few people didn’t think the rules should have applied to them and became very disagreeable about it.

I have had other experiences on Bike Night. Let me elaborate.

I have an easy job, or what should be easy. I lead a group of young people who help park the bikes on Bike Night. By ‘help’ I mean they tell each bike where to park. Believe it or not there is a pattern which best fits our lot which fits the most bikes possible. When bikers park as we say we can fit 500 bikes on the front lot alone and about 900 total. When they don’t, less than 700. It makes a big difference. On slower nights, when bikes are parked properly, I can provide closer parking for those in cars that still want to enjoy what bike night offers. Sounds simple doesn’t it?

The other part of my job is trying to keep the atmosphere more family friendly. We want to have a place that people with small children feel comfortable at. A place that doen’t have fights or other undesirable activity.

Last night was a perfect example of when my job becomes hard and a person thinks he is more important than the rules. Four bikers pull in at a higher than safe rate of speed, about 20 mph. Then blow right by the person parking bikes and park where they want, in a way that would disrupt parking. My employee walked up and kindly asked them to park their bikes in a more cooperative way. The complied….until he walked away. This is where I have to get involved.

I approach the group and, with more authority, tell them to cooperate. All comply except one guy who thinks since he is 6’4″ he can be a tough guy. He decides that, not only is he not moving his bike, it is now time to become agressive and tell me and his friends that they are staying where they are. So I asked him to leave.I explained that it was our lot and people are expected to cooperate or not be there. So then he moved to within inches from me and became threatening, asking me to fight him. Excuse me? If any of you know me personally, you know that I have bounced in clubs in Dallas and LA, I am not afraid of fighting. But that being said fighting does not fit what the owners of Quaker Steak and Lube want. We use the police. I asked the officer on duty to, and I quote, “escort the gentleman off of the premises”. He the starts calling me names and saying comments to try to upset me. Are we still in grade school? Then he walks away from the officer saying that this is a public lot and he can park wherever he wants. To make a long story short, he ended up being escorted off of the premises.

I just don’t get it. Why do people feel the need to embarrass themselves by acting childish? Why do people feel that by showing extreme disrespect they will get their way? None of us are better than anyone else. Life doesn’t always fit with how we want it, but we deal with it, right?

The golden rule is treat other as you wish to be treated. I always say that to get love or respect, you must first be willing to give it.

Why can’t more people remember that?

I do agree, the big three need to step up a bit.

I work for a GM dealer, and by heart I’m a Mopar guy. When it comes to my daily driver, I’m a GM guy to the end. Not because I work for them, but because I’ve still had many more GM vehicles in my years of driving than Mopars. I purchased a Dodge Stratus R/T brand new in 2003, and that was the largest piece of $hi* I ever owned. It was bought back under lemon laws, and I told myself and my boss that I will never make that mistake again. I purchased one brand new Chevy truck, that was the best truck I ever owned! I had a couple other GMC’s which were also good trucks. Even the GMC I’m driving today isn’t a bad machine. My Dad drives an older late model Dodge Ram- for the most part its a good truck but last year he had to buy the first transmission for any Mopar he’s ever owned, and once that was all hunky dory the rear diff carrier spun a bearing in the housing and he had to buy a new rear axle crybaby2.gif Lucky for him he only puts on about 7k a year on his personal vehicle. My mom just got a newer Chevy Impala and she loves it. It was hard for her to give her 1991 Chevy Lumina, but that there was a case of a car that didn’t owe her a dime. My Grandma also bought a brand new Chevy Impala about two months ago. All the bells and whistles…and she’ll put maybe 2k a year on.

One thing that gets to me about GM though is the fact there behind on everything. When Ford revamped the ‘stang, GM shoulda pulled there heads outs and got the Camaro rolling asap. The new GTO is a cool car, but it doesn’t have any retro appeal like the Mustang or the Challenger. Nowadays the Corvette is a “big boy toy”, you have to have a big boy checking account to have one. I love the new ‘vette, and I love the Z06, but there’s no way in hell I can afford one. I hope the new horsepower wars don’t end before the Camaro arrives! However, Monday is the unveiling of the new Chevy Malibu, which will be offered as a hybrid also. GM is doing the right thing by offering flex-fuel vehicles. Since 2005 the pickups have been available as E85 capable. I believe the Tahoes and Suburbans started in ’03. GM does also offer a Hybrid pickup, but I have only seen one since they became available in ’06.

Ford has never made anything appealing to me until the mustang came out with the retro look. I think these are the best looking car on the road.

Chrysler did good with the Germans. The 300 is a badass car! I think the Charger should have been a two door. There trucks have a mean look, but they also have a mean punch when it comes to the gas pumps. In my experience, Chryslers have always been hard on gas. I like the styling concepts they have, but after that Stratus I can’t bring myself to buy one that isn’t at least 30 years old.

I’m not a fan of imports. I believe in buying American. Sure, toyota’s are made in Kentucky, but that profit still goes overseas. That, and the ones I’ve ever been in seem like there cheaply constructed. But then again, I drive trucks for my daily drivers too wave.gif

Wow I cannot believe the nerve of some people!!

I have said in another thread that I may not be at the Lube next year. I have also that I had a meeting today. Here is what was said and I have never been so insulted or treated like I don’t matter.

Everyone knows, or should know, that I am the person behind the Lube car cruise in. I was the person who came up with the idea and I am the person that has hosted it every single day for three years. I am the only person who has worked on the lot and greeted every person that has shown. I have never received any help from anyone (with the exception of Andrew at WCC).

Today I was thanked for “helping” with the car cruise in. Helping? HELPING!?? Are you flipping kidding me!!??? HELPING???!!!

I have spent my own free time chatting on line, going to car shows with fliers in my car window, going to vendors, generally just promoting. I have been there every day setting up the lot, standing there moving cones, talking to customers, trying to make the event something that people enjoy so they will want to come back (and the restaurant has been getting business thru that effort). I don’t get a percentage, nor do I ask for one. The only thing QSL has done is pay for a radio add. They have never helped me in any way. The Good Guys day was thru me sending many, many emails to them to get them here, no one else helped me with that day. I had to beg and beg and beg to get a band for that day. And I get a thanks for “helping”.

I thank you all for attending. I have genuinely enjoyed meeting and talking with all of you. I regret that I will not be doing the show at Quaker Steak and Lube next year. Apparently they don’t think I did very much to make it happen.

Oh they did ask me if I will “help” again next year. HA!

Sorry to hear that. That reflects very badly on them. There definitely is no loyalty on their part. Too many businesses these days show no loyalty to the employees that put them in that position.

Wow Jon, that really sucks! We all know how hard you worked and it’s a shame they didn’t see that, I can’t imagine what QSL was thinking. They will surely find out next year when no one shows up that it’s their loss, not yours. Hopefully you can move on to something bigger and better! Thanks again for all you did, the Road Apples very much appreciate it! :)

Thank you. I, as well, am very surprised at this. Many people have told me that they view me as the face of the Lube. I guess hard work and caring means nothing to them.

I know this is not politically correct, but I ask that everyone passes this news on and lets it be known how they do business.

If you choose to attend there next year, I hope you have a good time, but deep inside I am hurt and feel betrayed ( not by you, but by them) and hope they grow to realize that you do not treat people that way. At least I do not.

This is just crazy! Shame on QSL! It was quite evident that Jon was the face, promoter and the main contact for this event.

As the year went on the word got out and the wkly shows got bigger. And this next year would of been perfect to start to mix in some new things, like cruises, starting or ending at the Lube, bringing in the goodguys again, and bringing in the powertour guys.

Events like this are successful when there are a few people who coordinate it are the same folks year in and out, so they become the face of the event.

I will definitely think twice about heading out to the lube for the show next year

Jon, Sorry to hear that QSL treated you so badly.

My gratitude to you for your time and efforts – I know we all appreciate your work last year! One of my friends and a fellow mustang fanatic (Al Santowski) brought out his beautiful red 2+2 fastback early in the year and needed some tools to stop a coolant leak into the passenger floorboard. You were the one to find the tool and get him some quick help to stop the coolant leak. That one little episode speaks volumes, Jon.

MMRJR, I agree 100%, thats why Ive switched to imports. Ill take a Toyota, Mitsubishi, or Honda over a latemodel Ford or Chevy any day. Chrysler is a minor exception considering up until last year they were jointly designed and engineered by Mercedes and Mitsubishi.

I find it funny that foreign car makers seem to have a better grasp on our culture than the big 3.

My rant is that so many people get on their high horse about their Ford, Chevy or Dodge being so American made. This became irritatingly blatent during the Janesville show when a redneck in his latemodel black Mustang with IH8RICE on his license plates got on my case about buying American. I could only laugh and point out to him that my Eclipse and my wife’s Toyota are more “American Made” than his Mustang was.

Ignorance is not an excuse to be an @#$%#@#$

Jon, don’t let them get you down. Your efforts were very much apprecicated by The Badgerland Mustang Club and the Wisconsin Summer Cruisers. We only attended once last year but it was a pleasure. Now you may understand that after 3 years why we cancelled our annual Memorial Day Cruise to the QSL and now go to the Rumble Seat in Spring Green. If you ever want to be involved with a Cruise In again we would very much appreciate your experience as we launch two Wednesday Night Cruiser Nights next year.

I remember seeing that black late model Mustang with the 1H8RICE license plates at one of the local shows this year, maybe Edgerton? I’ll bet you my last dollar that he catches a ton of flak with those plates, especially at those shows where the Imports, Tuners, and Hydros show up in groups.

Though I find that vanity plate funny, all I can say is that guy better be able to back it up on the street…..or he’s gonna have every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a fast import wanting to race him.

And there are some very, VERY fast imports around. I also find the plate very funny. I knew a guy with I8AVETT on his Viper. I think comments on plates are always tongue-in-cheek and anyone offended needs to lighten up.

mustangsrus, I thank you for the compliment and the invite. I have some thinking to do over the winter. If it takes me very long to find another job I will have to sell the Challenger. That does not mean I will be without a car, I still have my import. I now see that the way QSL treated Wisconsin Summer Cruisers was not poor communication, just disrespect.

Also Hot Rod Power Tour will probably not be stopping at Quaker Steak and Lube. They have booked an event with the Middleton Fire Dept for that day and will not have room to section off the lot for cars.

Jon very sorry to hear about this and hope it all works out for the best for you. No doubt that at the cruise nights you were the face of the Lube and I know it meant a lot to the attendees when you personally greeted all of them each week and thanked them for coming. That personal effort adds a lot to a show.

Today I have three minor rants. None of these three really bother me but it has been slow lately on here and I want to start up some conversation.

    1) Some idiot decided to steal a neon Capital beer sign from Bourbon Street last Saturday night.

First let me say that stealing is one of the lowest things that you can do on this planet, right behind lying and anything negative towards women and children.

But what makes this idiot even more “special” is that he/she brought the sign back when they realized that they broke it. WTF?

    2) What is with feminists and African/American radicals? They want equality and they “say” that they don’t want the presidential race to be about gender or ethnicity, yet they immediately back a candidate based on gender or race and ask that people do the same. Hypocritical?

I feel that we will never have equality, of gender or race, until they stop using it as a tool to persuade or a weapon.

    3) And finally this one is personal. Quaker Steak and Lube is trying to find someone to replace what I did with the car cruise ins. That is fine, and I wish them luck, but they have gone to a friend on mine (who once worked at QS&L but quit by no call/no show) thinking he could draw from my group of friends. That is low. Why not just admit that you made a mistake?

And one more thing, and this really pisses me off!!!

Why is our government spending our tax dollars to look into the steroid use in baseball? For crying out loud!!! Our economy is going into the toilet, gas prices are redicuilous, housing is entering a major slump, we have no affordable health insurance, we are in a war that is going nowhere (Viet Nam anyone?), and the government is worried about adults putting chemicals in their bodies in a sport that is for entertainment? COME ON!!!
