If you could somehow go back and change one moment in world history, which moment would you pick?
Assume for the purpose of the exercise that your change would have a positive result; i am sooo not getting into that whole “unintended consequences” gig.

i think i would have to choose preventing Hitler from coming into power.

Some of you are coming across like sore losers.

The obvious choice would eb go prevent the assination of Archduke Ferdinand by that Serbian. Preventing WW1 & WW2.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archduke_Franz_Ferdinand_of_Austria

    220px-Franz_ferdinand.jpg

His Imperial and Royal Highness Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este (Franz Ferdinand Karl Ludwig Josef von Habsburg-Lothringen) (December 18, 1863 – June 28, 1914) was an Archduke of Austria and from 1896 until his death heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne. His assassination in Sarajevo, Austrian-annexed Bosnia-Herzegovina, precipitated the Austrian declaration of war against Serbia which triggered World War I.

Although Franz Ferdinand was seen outside Germany as a leader of the “war party” within Austria-Hungary, this was entirely untrue. In fact, the Archduke was one of the leading advocates of maintaining the peace within the Austro-Hungarian government during both the Bosnian Crisis of 1908-1909 and the Balkan Wars Crises of 1912-1913.

But the war would have broken out anyway, that just happened to have been the trigger. There is still a good chance a conflict would arise, and who knows maybe it would have been much worse than WWI

    :salut:

There’s a difference between being affiliated with a political party and following someone blindly because they are from your party.

I’ve never understood why some people follow their political party as though there were a football team. It just doesn’t make any sense.

I have never heard that one before. And could it have been worse, and if so how? icon_scratch.gif

Agreed, a party doesn’t absolutely define an ideal or belief. For instance, the Republican party is generally known to be more conservative on issues. However, take Bush – he’s a Republican, but his spending budget is certainly not conservative. Stick by your values in a democratic society – and not just by a political party or affiliation

As far as WWI – it could have cost more lives – that would be worse
