Welcome Forum The Lounge Why didn’t starfleet develop an emp to beat the borg??

I was wondering something. In First Contact they used the coolant from the warp core to kill the organic part of the borg in the engine room.

If they could do that why didn’t think of neutralizing the electronic components in the borg??

In the Matrix they use EMP (elctro magnetic pulse) to disable the machines in the real world. Why not adapt something like that to the borg?

Sure the Borg have shielding but I imagine that’s mainly against particle weapons like phasers. Wouldn’t a knockout electircal charge go through the shields? Or at least weaken the shields??

I mean even in Star Wars they have the ION cannons. Remember the Jawas taking down R2-D2 in the canyon on Tatooine? That was a portable ion cannon that shut down r2.

Good question, although I would imagine that they are shielded from that, they would have to have developed a technology against it after all the species that they have assimilated. Good idea though! What about putting a warp drive onto a photon torpedo, and then setting it to go into a brief subspace window and then reappear inside the cube, causing it to explode?

I thought the nanites were what they used to destroy the Borg.

The nanites were against species 8472.

    And another thing….

Wouldn’t using that bio attack in FIRST CONTACT be against the treaties mentioned in TNG??? Because that episode where the Cardassians captured Picard they lured them with the threat of biowarfare. They said most of the races had signed a treaty against using them….. :?: ?????

You mean the stuff that ate away their flesh? I think that was just a chemical, so that probably doesn’t qualify as an actuall bioweapon since its used for the warp drive. I’m not really sure

The writers often forget things from show to show and hope the audience will too. icon_cheesygrin.gif
