    Hello!
I am contemplating moving to Wisconsin.., Sturgeon Bay
Concerned about winter storage for my cars.
They are mostly old british, Etype, Bugeye, Lotus and Citroen 2cv and SM and a TR
Is it preferable to keep em in heated storage?
What is my driving season before the roads get salted?
    Any nearby mechanics?
In short term may ship a car up, any storage ideas in Door co?

Sorry to post on Madison site but it seems most active

    Thanks!
    Marc

Hello Marc, welcome to the forum.

Heated storage is a definite must. It is much easier on the car than the cooling down and heating up. The driving season varies as far as when salt is applied, but usually it is well into November before salt needs to be used. I am not familiar with Sturgeon Bay as far as mechanics are concerned. I think the best way to find one is by word of mouth from another older car owner.

Here is a link to the Sturgeon Bay site. http://www.sturgeonbay.net/

    Thanks GTO
How high do you keep the thermostat?
    Do you dehumidify in summer?

    as for techs or shops.

http://www.iatn.net which is a technicians/shop owners network. On the opening page you can find a shop by zip or town name. If you find a shop in there let me know, I can give you some info on them if they are a active member in the forums and trouble shooting areas.

I keep it at about 50 during the winter. During the summer I don’t dehumidify because it ususally isn’t that high here.

What do people pay around here to store their car for the winter? There seems to be a wide range of prices charged. I am lucky enough to have storage available for my cars. I noticed an ad in the Milwaukee paper for 11/1 to 5/1 for $650. Storage has gotten to the point where it isn’t cheap anymore.

$40 a month for my brothers Cobra across the street from our shop. Private locked garage with enough room for his other belongings.

The Chevelle stays nice and warm all winter in our walkout basement… The Mustang is in the neighbors pole shed, they aren’t charging us as Steve did work for them but if they did I think it’s around $50/month…

I’ve learned through the years you need to be extra careful where you store the cars… We’ve had new dents come spring that weren’t there in the fall due to the tight spaces and trying to get too many in one spot. Thank goodness I see the Chevelle daily! icon_cheesygrin.gif

I noticed an ad in this past week’s paper (I believe it may have been from Blue Chip Street Rods) for $65 a month, climate controlled indoors.

Also, I know that Capital City Auto has storage for several dozen collector cars also. I have no idea what the fees are there, but forunately, the owner is a “car guy” and gets alot of business from the old car crowd.

I know what you mean about being careful when storing your car somewhere else, not only can dents and dings appear, but so do fingerprints that aren’t yours and the chance that someone may rip off parts from your car for there own…

As far as storage prices go, a friend of mine has heated storage in Madison for $65 a month. When he’s not working in the shop the thermostat is kept about 55 degrees. DDHemi keeps his and his dad’s cars in the heated shop over the winter and that stays a comfy 50 degrees when were not working in there. The shed at his farm isn’t heated, but has a nice concrete floor with a vapor barrier to keep moisture out – I think he get’s $40 a month for that.

My GF has her summer car stored in my garage for the winter. I don’t have the heat on in there, but she gets it stored for free, a man knows when to pick and choose his battles My dad also has his motorcycle in there too. With all of that plus two full-size trucks, I still got room for a muscle car again….
