Has anyone had any issues with ice dam buildups on your roof letting water into your house?

    Not into my house.

I noticed I had a couple of ice sickles On the gutters on the rear of the house. So i went outside to investigate and I found about 2-3″ of ice on top of the gutters. So I got out my shovel and removed snow from about 3 feet up the the roof.

Then I got daring and jumped up on the roof and I cleared some snow from the roof vents. under the snow around the vents was solid ice. Then I ventured to the front of the house, and proceeded to push off the last 3 feet of snow from the gutter (not the safest thing to do).

There’s a guy in my neighborhood that had some ice buildup on his roof… He climbed up there with a 50# bag of blue salt and decorated his roof with it…

It all ran down his roof and only melted the ice in one spot, which the water ran straight into the gutters. He’s got some pretty neat icicles hanging off the porch now… Drogar-Laugh(LBG).gif

My house seems to be holding up OK. I had a new roof put on the house about 6 years ago, and they did install a water barrier underneath the new shingles and flashing, so I should be OK.

I am going to invest in a roof rake, when I can find a store that has them in stock.

I had a new roof within the last couple of years and they installed a water barrier from what I remember. After one of the last snow storms I looked for a new shovel in Madison. None of the stores or Home Depot had them. So I tried out at the True Value in Cross Plains. They had a good selection. I would like to get a roof rake also. I used a squeege to pull some snow off the roof.

I rented a roof rake today and cleaned off the edges of my roof. That is allot of work. It was like pulling lead off the roof.

Where did you go to rent a roof rake?

Cross Plains Hardware, I think it was $20 for three hours.
