Do we really need another thread about what’s going on at the Capital?

Mopar,
Yes, we do need another comment on what’s going on at the Capitol.
Times are tough (newsflash!!), and we’ll all need to cut some financial corners. But trying to take away the unions’ collective bargaining rights under the guise of a budget bill is a fascist move.
I support the unions making necessary cuts in salaries and perks. But I absolutely support their rights to negotiate and, if needed, go on strike. Workers need the right to strike over issues like unsafe conditions, child labor, etc. The only reason we no longer suffer over those items is an indication that unions have worked well over the decades.
I’ve got friends in the teaching field. They gave up their contractually guaranteed salary increase several years ago, in order to maintain their health and retirement benefits. That’s right, they already made salary concessions. To take away those perks now seems disingenuous, at best.
Given that they had no other recourse over this matter, I think the Dem. Senators fleeing the state was a brilliant move. Why do you think they call it politics??
I know many of you will disagree with me. That’s OK. The reason we need to discuss our differences is so that we might be able to get along well enough to live next door to one another, and hopefully come to a decent resolution of our differences.
What I went through recently, battling DOT over my Pinzgauer title/registration, was a case of Government simply taking an action, despite overwhelming public opposition and no legal authority, to outlaw our old cars. This is the same crap. I beat their a$$es in court, and got a law passed. This union-busting effort needs to get defeated too. If it takes a court ruling, so be it.
Balance the budget, but don’t use the situation as an opportunity to steal citizens’ rights. You guys who like to own/drive your “old cars” should take a bigger interest in protecting those rights, lest you lose ’em.
