See You Down The Road

After many years serving the classic car community, Wisconsin Collector Car will be shutting down at the end of 2024. Thank you for all of the car show memories!

Most annoying trend at this year’s shows – I’ve said this many times, but new cars don’t necessarily belong at shows, and if they do participate ~ they certainly should not win best of show!! There is no reason for cars 40 and 50 years old being in the same classes with cars I can see at the local dealership. Either have separate awards, or recognize the differences.

It seems like a “Modern Muscle” class would solve this problem easily. Any car newer than XX years can only go into “Modern Muscle” or “Special Interest” or “Import” – something along those lines. I wonder if these shows are not aware of the problem or do not believe they can factor in extra classes for the show budget?

The only problem with a special interest class is I’ve seen several Mustangs in that class, and I don’t necessarily consider those special interest cars (no offense to anyone). If nothing else, the classes need to be clearly defined.

Favorite Show – I’m not sure if it counts around here, but we had a blast at Back to the 50’s! I would highly suggest you all add this to your “bucket list”, it’s a great event from start to finish. I was so surprised how friendly everyone was, and the quality and amount of cars is just amazing!! Locally, the Spring Green and Pardeeville shows continue to be my favorite. You can tell the organizers pour everything they have into these shows to make them the best they can.

Least Favorite Show – I really didn’t have one this year, there were several shows that we didn’t attend either due to the surgery my daughter had, or the uncooperative weather.

Biggest disappointment this year – The weather, it was either raining or cold way too many weekends. The nicest weather all summer long was the last 3 weeks, when the show season was over. I also didn’t appreciate some of the bashing that went on between a couple shows in the area, there is no reason for that. As a promoter of a show, I was very disappointed to see an event held in the same location a week before the Road Apples show, but I don’t think it hurt our attendance. Promoters need to work together, not against each other.

Best new trend at shows – I also appreciate the earlier awards times, especially if you’re a long ways from home. I also like promoters that want to know how they can improve their shows and actually LISTEN and take action on the suggestions.

Did you attend as many shows as the previous year? – I think we attended less this year, we have our favorites.

Will you attend more or less shows next year? – Probably about the same

Would you rather attend a cruise-in or a car show? – Either is fine with me.. the thing we have to understand is just a few years ago there was a handful of cruise nights and shows that had been held for years. Now there are multiple cruise nights every night of the week and enough shows to keep everyone entertained for months spread throughout the state. In some ways we are spoiled, and in other ways it hurts the events as people tend to get burned out and look for something new.

What are your overall impressions of this year’s shows? I think this year went well, unfortunately the summers always go way too fast. There are a few shows we missed this summer, and I’m always game for traveling to somewhere new. It’s time to start planning for 2011!

Belinda, I agree with your club comments. At one time we were told we had to park next to the cornfield to ensure enough room for all the classes. As the years have gone on, there is plenty of room for all the classes and the clubs without having everyone parked so far away. I would love to be closer to the music and action, maybe one day?!

Yep, I don’t think any more shows for me this year. We may take a cruise in the next couple weeks before the car goes into storage.

Didn’t hear anything about this show. The weather unfortunately is not our friend the next few weeks for any late shows. We’ll probably put the car in storage in the next couple weeks. :(

Heard there were over 500 cars at the show.. I haven’t been to this one in years (Jefferson seems to interfere). I was told tonight they gave out $1000 to (10) lucky winners, which is nice unless you have 500 cars and 490 people wondering where their $10 went. Sounds like this one needs some tweaking?!

The Marshall Area Business Association is hosting their annual Main Street Mania on Saturday, September 25th. It is a great community event to attend. We shut down our Main Street for the day, entrance is free, we have food booths, silent auction, raffles, kids activities, car show ($5.00 entry fee – 100% pay back), music and more! This event is sponsored and run by the local Business Association as our main fundraiser. Our Association’s goal is to focus on the local businesses and the Marshall community as a whole, to bring awareness to the local businesses and what they do for us.

    Looks like cash prizes?

Steve’s going to Jefferson all weekend, I’ll be at Madison International Speedway for their year end classic.

Please, please, please NO rain! I’ve had enough the last few weeks and most of the summer!

Cold, rainy and downright miserable! I’m sure the car count was down and there were several that left early and throughout the day. Not a good day at all! :(

Have fun Marshall! We thought about going to Joliet, but wanted to hit Beloit too, and you can’t do everything in one weekend.

What won best of show? I know several that didn’t go back this year as last year all the best of’s were cars less than 2 years old…

Beloit on Sunday, more than likely just as spectators though…
