November 7, 2007 at 1:00 am in reply to: What is happening with people today? A thread for venting #30618jonmandudeParticipantWow I cannot believe the nerve of some people!!
I have said in another thread that I may not be at the Lube next year. I have also that I had a meeting today. Here is what was said and I have never been so insulted or treated like I don’t matter.
Everyone knows, or should know, that I am the person behind the Lube car cruise in. I was the person who came up with the idea and I am the person that has hosted it every single day for three years. I am the only person who has worked on the lot and greeted every person that has shown. I have never received any help from anyone (with the exception of Andrew at WCC).
Today I was thanked for “helping” with the car cruise in. Helping? HELPING!?? Are you flipping kidding me!!??? HELPING???!!!
I have spent my own free time chatting on line, going to car shows with fliers in my car window, going to vendors, generally just promoting. I have been there every day setting up the lot, standing there moving cones, talking to customers, trying to make the event something that people enjoy so they will want to come back (and the restaurant has been getting business thru that effort). I don’t get a percentage, nor do I ask for one. The only thing QSL has done is pay for a radio add. They have never helped me in any way. The Good Guys day was thru me sending many, many emails to them to get them here, no one else helped me with that day. I had to beg and beg and beg to get a band for that day. And I get a thanks for “helping”.
I thank you all for attending. I have genuinely enjoyed meeting and talking with all of you. I regret that I will not be doing the show at Quaker Steak and Lube next year. Apparently they don’t think I did very much to make it happen.
Oh they did ask me if I will “help” again next year. HA!
jonmandudeParticipantI WILL NOT BE AT QUAKER STEAK AND LUBE NEXT YEAR!!!

jonmandudeParticipantThanks for the support guys. I wish I got even half of this from the Lube. It has been a labor of love for me, love of both the cars and of the people I have met. I have always been appreciative to them for letting me do it. But now with that not happening things have changed dramatically for me there. The owner does seem to appreciate what I have done, and has told me that it would not work without me, but management is a different story. It is more of a “now that Jon has gotten it started, we can pay someone else less to continue” feel (money has never been a factor for ME). I have a meeting with the owner and GM on Tuesday. Maybe things will iron out-maybe not.
I have other places that will allow me to do the cruise, but I don’t think it would be as enjoyable for everyone. I do think that location is a factor. I would hate to see something I have worked three years to make go away.

jonmandudeParticipantWe don’t have long with them. But then who? Hillary Clinton? God I hope not. She scares me, not because she is a woman, I support a woman for president, but I get the feeling she is hiding something. Does anyone else remember whitewater?
I think if she gets elected, she will damage any chance any woman has of being president for 100 years
jonmandudeParticipantI think it is because everyone wants to get rich quick.
jonmandudeParticipantQuote:I’d agree that the muscle car group is huge now. I would like to see more custom rods, 40’s cruisers, and yes, more GOOD tuners.I emphasize “good” because too many of the younger tuners really dont take the time to think through a car project as whole…its like the saying goes: they cant see the forest, only trees. I think thats why the modern tuners kinda get a bad reputation.
I would also like to see more quality tuners. But I disagree with why they aren’t common….money. Most tuners are owned by younger car owners, and younger car owners like to use their money differently. As we get older, we start to plan our spending more.
And the tuners don’t get respect because of the thumping ass stereos. Not everybody enjoys that type of music. It goes back to respect, to get it you have to give it, and playing music too loud that others may not appreciate is not respectful.
jonmandudeParticipantI agree with Ted also. I lived in Texas where anyone without a felony record can own and carry a gun.
I do think gun control is important, but not gun elimination. I think that a waiting period is a good idea. I think it should be controlled who buys guns and recorded. I think that way of gun control is a good thing. I think that “law abiding citizens” should be free to own and carry guns. i do not feel a need to carry a gun, but I should have that right. I just feel that felons give up that right and there should be some rules in place to attempt to “control” that. That is my view on gun control. Why is that not a good thing?
jonmandudeParticipantI am growing tired of these people that have a classic that is in very poor shape so they paint it flat black and call it a rat rod. Rat rods are not run down classics painted flat black. They are street rods made on a budget like the original street rods of the 30’s and 40’s, the cars that started the whole car modifying trend. That Impala is not a rat rod.
jonmandudeParticipantThose same states had the highest crime rates BEFORE they had rigid gun control laws. The gun control laws were passed to try to help that.
But still explain to me why it is so important not to have a waiting period? Seriously those who cannot wait are exactly those who should.
jonmandudeParticipantI wonder about people against gun control. Seriously who can’t wait a few days for a gun? Gun control doesn’t say the lawful can’t own guns, it tries to prevent the unlawful from getting them easily.
jonmandudeParticipantIt’s the Barret/Jackson effect. Everyone thinks their car is worth millions because it is “rare” in their eyes. The reality is that “rare” is just that, rare, like one of less than 50, or 100. Anything else is mass produced. A 1963 Chevy 2 SS or 1967 Camaro RS/SS, though not real common, is not rare. And, unless it is in immaculate shape, it is not worth that kind of money.
Reality will always prevail and the owner will end up lowering his price.
jonmandudeParticipantThanks both of you, and everyone else who attended this year. I have had a great time doing the cruise night this year. I was amazed at the the cars and trucks that came out this year. There are so many beautiful rides in the area. It was an honor just to be allowed to see them all.
