I took the, I want to sleep in a bit, approach to this show. I rolled in around 9:30. There was no line. I was pre-registered so my trip in was quick. I told the person parking my group that there was 5 of us, so they put us on the first corner. We had a nice tree to sit under.
I like this show. It is well organized. I put it up with Road Apples as the best run shows in this area.
This is participant judged with a nice twist…you cannot judge your own class. You get handed a judging sheet with 6 classes not your own. You simply walk around and look for cars with window cards that match the color of your sheet. I enjoy this because while looking for cars to judge, I see a lot of cars that I am not judging. I enjoy that part. Some of the cars that come out to this show are spectacular. That supercharged Hemi Willys was just amazing. I could spend hours looking at just the custom leather work…and then more looking at the engine…and then more looking at the paint and body work..Wow
jonmandudeParticipantThat was a little beyond the “norm”. There was a lot of buzz from Dennis Gage being there.
It is still a great show. It spreads out thru-out the downtown area. If you want main street, you have to be 8:00am-ish. There is no really bad spot. The foot traffic flows thru it all. In 2011, I showed up around 10:00 because it rained that morning. I was in the parking lot behind all of the buildings. In 2012, I showed up around 8:00 and was on the main street. last year I was on a side street. All good
I spoke with Todd Newton last weekend and he said he is getting almost as much interest and phone calls as he did last year.
jonmandudeParticipantDo I read that correctly? Belleville show is 11:00am to 3:00? ….11:00am?
jonmandudeParticipantmost shops charge around $100-125/hr
Keep in mind these are cars at the “Riddler” level, Generally those cars tend to take millions to build. half million dollar car probably wouldn’t even make the “Elite Eight”

Good description. Unfortunately most of the auctions on TV have gotten so commercial they are losing their appeal for watching them. And with Barrett Jackson too many car owners have unrealistic ideas as to what their car is worth. One of the awards cars had 5000 hours in it. What in the hell can you do for 5000 hours, did that owner ever get suckered.
Ive been saying this for awhile now. Though its fun to watch these auctions, the market is over inflated and and the common man can’t afford to buy or even build a classic car now days.
5000 hours is very do-able for cars at that level. Some of the full custom work can take weeks to get right, and many of these cars are 1.5-2 year builds.
Spot on Zac. I do not know how many guys I have talked to selling cars that say “one sold on Barrett-Jackson for $xxxxxx.” People think everything built before 1975 is worth tens of thousands just because it is that era. Darts and Demons (although very cool cars) are now selling for $20K plus…….not even built. Dumb

jonmandudeParticipantI am always amazed at some of the cars that come out of hiding for this. That 512TR was a nice sight.
jonmandudeParticipantAlso Mopar show at Great Lakes Dragway on Sunday
jonmandudeParticipantThe most interesting thing I saw, maybe in my whole 30 years of car shows is this
It is a 1919 Briggs & Stratton…Yep THAT Briggs & Stratton. This is how they started out. They bought the patent for the motorized wheel, put it on the back end of a wheeled sled and created a powered vehicle. The story I was told is, since it was 1919, and the many automobiles were already in production, it failed miserably. B&S stopped producing vehicles and stuck to small engines
jonmandudeParticipanta new rumor came out today to make that campaign silly.

jonmandudeParticipantjonmandudeParticipantThat’s funny right there…..mainly because you are a GM guy
jonmandudeParticipantjonmandudeParticipantMost unexpected entry?
I was at Beaver Dam today and there was a early-80’s Malibu 4 door next to me. Bone stock with some rust. Not what I would have expected but hey, he paid his money..why not?
jonmandudeParticipantSwan City for me too. Hope the rain holds off
